Full throttle NO GO!!

Ok I'm stumped.

I have an MGM 8012 and a Feigao 8s running on (6) GP3300 cells. My stampede runs great up until FT where it cuts out completely. Anything over 75% throttle and there is total silence. However it will not do this if I hold the truck in my hand. (Only under a load)

So far I have:

1. Adjusted the timing and eventually went back to the auto setting.
2. Changed battery packs
3. Changed low battery cut-off point.

Any ideas?

Did it just start this? Or has it done it from day one?

that's weird, that's something a nitro truck would do.... :)

did you put everything back to default.... this happened to me when I accidently put it to 2Cell cut off..... and I was using, 3 cells...

change it back to Nimh mode.... cuz it make sense.... full throttle draws more amps. and cells are less volts...

I don't know if what I typed make sense, but yeah....

Ok I'll try the default setting tomorrow and see what happens.

I bought the motor and controller used and this is my first attempt at using it. (I did see it work before I bought it though.)

My guess is the batteries may be old and don't have enough power anymore. I really haven't used them in about a year. The previous owner was running 10 GP3300 cells when I saw it and it ran great.

By setting any controller back to the factory specs or default setting is allways a good starting point when controllers have issues...best of luck

Well no luck yet. I set the controller to default settings and though it's smoother it still cuts out at WOT. I messed around with the settings a little more. I noticed the more I advance the timing the worse it is. At 10 deg timing it coggs bad then jumps then cuts out.

The weird thing is it starts to work then cuts out again. If I let it sit for 30 seconds it screws then eventually cuts out again. The motor, controller, and battery never even get warm.

I'm starting to think I have a bum controller. I'm going to try more cells and maybe a different gear ratio.

Found the problem.... VOLTAGE!!

As I suspected my cells are tired. I added 2 cells tonight (8 total) and the truck was crazy. The front end was coming up at any speed and the controller was not shutting off at full throttle.

Once the pack wore down (4 minutes) the problem came back due to low voltage.

Now I see why Lipo is so popular.
