Lipo - Charging and balancing - HELP

I have some 2s2p 8000 mah lipo´s from Maxamps - I´m not sure of how many amps they should be charged with. The charger can do up to 5 amps. Does anyone know ????

I also have a balancer - Apache 505 from Maxamps - but i´m not sure how to connect it. If I just connect it to the plug on the battery if shows error. Do I have to charge trough the balancer ??

The charger is a Swallow 2 digital peak charger.

Please help

You can charge at a rate of "1C" which will be 8amps, since your charger can only do upto 5amps. You can charge at 5amps.

1C = 8000mAh / 1000 = 8amps
...for example if you had 3700mAh batteries it would be:
1C = 3700mAh / 1000 = 3.7amps.
I believe that is correct. :)

Is that you JJ?

Yea, Nick, that is correct. Welcome to the forums, by the way.

You don't have to charge through the balancer, and shouldn't at 5amps. Do you have a picture of the balancer connected to the battery? It's very possible that the balance connectors are wired wrong (not your fault).

This is how I wired it up. And when I do this the error led lights

MetalMan 10.31.2006 07:30 PM

Is it blinking, or is it solid? If it's solid, that just means that it's balanced :).

Andersen 11.01.2006 01:48 PM

It is solid - but it is the error led that lights , does that mean that the batterys are balanced ?? ( it could make sence it the forst time the batterys are charged ??

Just got this balancer as well, a solid green means the pack is doen charging and/or balanced.

A flashing green means uh-oh.

MetalMan 11.01.2006 10:32 PM

Yeah, flashing green LED means error. Notice that next to the word Error says "Check". That means that the cell voltages are in "check" :005: (balanced).

Hey MM I got a ?

I'm charging thru the balancer (charger only does 2.5A anyway,) and I notice towards the end of the charge the amperage drops very low, ~.1A or so. This is with a Triton.

Is this normal? I'm assuming the cells are nearly charged, and the balancer is just topping of the last cell or two. LMK, :)

BrianG 11.02.2006 12:54 AM

I'm not MM, but that's just the end of the constant-voltage stage of the charge and is perfectly normal.

MetalMan 11.02.2006 01:53 AM

What he said :).

Andersen 11.02.2006 04:28 PM

Well I learned something again today :030: I will see what it says I have used and charged the battery´s a few times. And return if its the same :eek:

Thank you very much for your help
