Pillow Balls, etc
I was looking around for some pillow balls. RPM has this, Pillow Ball Setscrews & Bushing Caps but I don't think that's the balls just some setscrews and bushings.
Anybody use these or have a recommandation? I seen the Strobe 7075 Pillow Balls on here so I'm thinking you would need these and maybe the setscrews if you didn't have any to work with, correct? Any feed back on the Strobe pillow balls would be appreciated. Thanks |
The Strobe pillow balls are probably the lightest pillow balls you can find, as they are aluminum. I also can get (actually, I have some) titanium pillow balls, which are stronger than the stock balls and lighter as well (not as light as the strobes, but stronger). For racing, many will choose the strobe pillow balls, while the bashers would benefit from the titanium.

are the strobes lighter than the alum traxxas aftermarket pillow balls

I couldn't say for sure. I'm sure they are close.

Would you need something to hold them in place if you didn't have the stock parts?
|
what do you mean? Either thread lock or a set screw can hold a pillow ball in place in an alum arm...i think that what your asking?
|
If you intend to put the strobe pillowball in a aluminum arm, it may not work. The bore diameter is slightly larger than that of stock, so you may get lucky. It's really meant for plastic, where the material can flex slightly. You're best going Traxxas aluminum (weak), UE Titanium (strong), or UE steel (stronger).
If you're really interested in losing weight, you could put UE Ti pivot balls for the front lowers and trx aluminum everywhere else. That's my plan at least. |
I also carry RDLogics Titanium pillow balls, which are a little heavier than the aluminum, but lighter and stronger than stock (and much stronger than the aluminum pivot balls). The Strobes should fit an aluminum suspension arm fine as well.
