Orderd a 3700 20c 3s1p FP pack today, just one, to try in my T4 with a Mamba 5700. :) Coming Friday I hope, so look forward to these beasts!

Just wondering what's the best way to charge these, can I go above 1C? If it runs good, buying a 2nd for my Maxx.

How do I dispose of Lipos? Got a couple of TrueRCs that need to be chucked. I assume because they are flammable I can't just put them in a bin? :024:

Many of the newer 20C packs are safe to be charged at 2C or even 3C, but it WILL reduce pack life. However, a form of active balancing should be going at the same time, since a small imbalance in the cells would be amplified 2 or 3 times. An example of active balancing would be like the Thunder Power 1010C charger and 210V balancer communicating together, where the balancer can cause the charger to slow down the charge rate if the imbalance is too large.

Lipos are environment friendly and you only need to submerge the packs- like nimh- in salted water and then, for extra caution, wrap them with some insulation and throw them in the basket.

Probably, MetalMan should review my reply and see if it needs some corrections. LOL!

Looks like I forgot to answer part of the original question.

If you only submerge Lipos in salt water, they won't be discharged much at all, but the positive (aluminum) tabs on the cells will dissolve in the salt water (salt water is quite corrosive). So that means that the cells (and the whole pack) would have a lot of energy left. Throwing away a Lipo pack with a lot of energy left could cause a pretty good sized explosion, would would be very bad for the guy who collects the trash.

Here's what I do, and I know that this method does a pretty good job of making the pack more safe to throw away.
-Discharge the pack as low as you can using any means you can. IE: the discharge function on a charger (set to NiMh with a low cutoff voltage), an electric motor hooked up directly to the pack, etc.
-Hook up a resistor like a 10ohm 10watt one to the pack (polarity doesn't matter for resistors), and let the resistor discharge the pack. Get the voltage as low as possible with the resistor (check with a voltmeter).
-Make a container with salt water in it, and puncture the battery multiple times. It should be safe to puncture the battery since all of the energy has been discharged from it. Then, stick the battery into the salt water solution, and watch the cells bubble.
The pack will be done in the salt water when bubbles no longer are being released. At that point the pack is "safe" to throw away.

Or, do what my dad did once. Go to the farm with plenty of room with the fully charged lipo, take some gun powder and gasoline. Put lipo in a dirt hole, pour gas into it. make a trail with gun powder stand about 200 ft back and light er up!

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!

Thanks guys, I'll just charge on 1-1.5C, it's quick enough. Got a balancer to. I'll keep my other Lipos for now until I have the resources to bin them properly.
