quark versus castle
wat's best?
quark or castle? for both motors and controllers? |
Totally different setups to be honost. Depends entierly what you want to run, each is best at their own thing.

Well, both seem to have their pluses and minuses.
Quark has trouble at 6s for most people, but runs fine at 5s. Cooling may be a problem for some, which can be easily fixed with an add-on heatsink. Programmability is better than average - you still have to use the Tx and count beeps/LEDs and such. Footprint is fairly large, but within the size range for this capacity controller. A little pricey. The MM seems like a little powerhouse. Easily capable of 4s and some have run 5s (but that's pushing it IMO). Runs most motors without overheating - but even then a fan can be added. Just about the best programmability out there, if not THE best. Footprint is pretty small and is easy to mount. May be a bit difficult to add another heatsink if desired. The only "problem" with them are the 3 "quirks" discussed in the Caste Creations category. Price is VERY reasonable IMO. So, if your motor isn't extremely hot (like a 6XL or 7XL) and you are running ~4s, then the MM looks like a good choice. If higher voltage and higher currents are required, then the Quark. Even though both ESCs are in the 100A range, the Quark should have more amperage "reserves" simply due to having more paralleled FETs. |
how bout lifetime of both systems?:032:
i think if i go quark it would be the 65 amp roadster esc and the ap4 or 5 turn.:004: or should i go with competion 80amp esc? if mamba max then its 4600 or 5700, as its for a rc10t4 and i want the cabability of 3s lipo. how long would both system last me?:032: if treathed correct of course. |
As both controllers are relatively new, it's hard to say which one is more reliable. Generally speaking, the more robustly built one will last longer since the components aren't strained. It also depends on the design quality of the rest of the circuit; for instance: if the circuit traces aren't large enough to pass the required current, the resulting heat can, over time, damage nearby components.
IIRC, I think there has been one or two Quarks that have burned up so far, and maybe one MM, but I'm not sure. It's hard to say if those were simply lemons, or legitimate faults from being pushed too hard. |

i'm very glad you guys like my question, please dig in deep.
i wanna hear all the good and bad about both. a pro about the quark motors is they got a fan inside. any one know how many poles those quark motors are? if quark it is, 65 or 80 amp esc for t4? the batts i'm lookin into are rated 64 and 74 amp continous. of the motor's, any brushless motor, how can you know the amp draw under load? cuz i believe amp draw will go up with higher gearing ( bigger pinion)? right? on the quarks, there's a tread going on about thermal problems, do the 65amp and 80 esc's have those problems or is it just the 125 amp? |

yeah, the holes arent always good, but for me on grass, i dont think there problematic.

If on grass, then no, it shouldn't be a problem. Just the thought of something getting in the motor where the rotor is spinning at 30,000 rpm or faster makes me cringe.
The MM ESC is 1.9" x 1.3" x 1.2", which is also listed here. |

I have never ran a castle. The only dislike I have on quark is the 6s running
problem. The mambamax is rated at like 100 amps continous. Just for reference. |
anyone have any ideas of how the mgm 16016 stacks up to the mm and the quark?

the 6s problem doesnt concern me as the most i'll run is 3s.
