Best Chassis, etc for a e-revo racer
I am building a brushless revo for racing
what is the better option (considering weight, strength and lowest cg) 1. A gorillamaxx e-revo carbon fiber chassis Or 2. A vantage Carbon converted (has anyone converted that chassis yet?) i'm thinking it could possibly have lower cg thanks for any advice or help. I just wanna stomp the nitro guys, right now they are laughin at me and my brushless rc18t. So thats gonna stop |
well you can use the stock Revo chasis, so the Vantage one should also work, since it is the same. you know?

The only disadvantage to the CF one is that chassis modifications are somewhat limited. I bent a couple of pieces as part of my design, which you can't do with CF. The best you can do there is cut parts off and bolt something else on if something custom is needed.
If you plan to go with the CF one, I'd pick up a stock aluminum one on eBay cheaply to experiment with. Once you have the design done, then just swap everything over to the CF chassis. Beats cutting up an expensive CF chassis and then deciding you shouldn't have done that. Or, just go with the G2R... EDIT Oh, almost forgot: Welcome to the forums! :) |
or just screw on pieces of aluminum for the bent parts?

If eBay doesn't have the size and/or grade you want, onlinemetals.com has a nice selection, but not necessarily cheap. If you have something like a HomeDepot/Menards/Lowe's around, they usually have a limited supply of basic aluminum pieces. It's not the best quality though; it bends easily, but it's easy to work with.

Yea - You could also check metalxpress - but if i remember correctly - onlinemetals has 1/8 sheet but only 12" wide - so you would probably have to cut it to size - and xpress dont have anything that size - only .9 thick i think - good luck in your search...

Brian, good idea on the buying a rough draft from ebay, thats what i'll do if i go with the vantage. I was also wondering if the vantage(with correct mods to e-conversion) has a lower center of gravity than the G2R Carbon Fiber.

if you do it right, the stock chasis has a lower center of gravity over the gorilla maxx one.
there probally around the same wieght, stock revo to GM. but vantage to GM probally the vantage one. |
The g2r has got the batteries mounted real low, and weights next to nothing.
The vantage chassis is maybe lighter, but you need to make a batterietray which would make it most likely heavier than the g2r. Weight isn't all. The lighter is not 'the better' for racing you don't want your truck to be too light, you'll get pushed around quite easy. A low CG however would help with the handling. With the low possition of the batteries on the g2r you can't go wrong. |

Now i'm swaying to the g2r. I think it has a longer wheelbase than the 3.3 vantage? Does either have adjustments the other is not capable of? |
The wheelbase is about the same. you have got the ability to fit in the slipperential (a diff with a slipper) which will be available on a short term.
For the settings; You have got more freedom of assembling IMO, less hassle and a perfect electric bolt on/drop in. Glad you like the forum! Stick around to inhale the nice atmosphere! |
