Rear Mounted ESC in G2R (Pics)
 

With the forward mounted ESC I had been having clearance issues and had to use little plates to mount the ESC about a 1/4 inch forward to clear the HV motor (which is longer than the Titan 550s).

I received my single speed conversion last Monday, and proceded to put it in. I though that if I reversed the transmission, and had the motor point the other way, I would be able to mount the ESC normally. However, the slipper shaft was too long and again obstructing the mounting.

I saw some pre-cut areas in the rear shock plate that were just there to reduce weight. I figured that I would mount the ESC there if I used a few spacers and washers.

It ended up fitting perfectly, giving a much cleaner look and a better weight balance (front end was getting pummeled off jumps cause the suspension was too soft, and it naturally has less ground clearance due to the G2R design).

With no shifting servo, I also mounted the receiver and such on the other side of the truck. I also removed the rear bumper. The telemetry stuff isn't on the truck right now becuase the module is still at Horizon/Spektrum Service under repair/replacement. :031:

Weight distribution is very close to 50/50 front and rear, and right/left speaking its just a tad heavier on the motor side. Probably 47/53. It handles amazingly (better than before). I will weigh it sometime to see how much it weighs. I think it should be around 9.25 pounds. :027:

P.S. Maxamps 8000mah 2S2P Lipos, Hyperion LBA10 Balancer, and Duratrax Ice Charger were ordered last night. :D I'll let you guys know when they come in.

If I still want a little more power after the Lipo's come in I may upgrade to the 4.5 motor...but I dont want to have too much power. Its a very stable platform, but there are always limits to what can be put down on a race track. I am below 1/2 throttle most of the time besides a few blurps before jumps and down the straight. :eek:

Now after looking at yours I'd have to say mine is like 60/40. I always have to give it a little blip midair when I take a jump. I'd like to get the 50/50 but I still want easy access to everything. Great setup! Here's how mine looks.

I haven't touched my G2 in weeks :007: since I bought my rock crawler.

Well, I admittedly haven't ran my G2R in a couple weeks either. But I have been working on it (doing this and adding the single speed and such). I would have hit the track sunday, but I forgot to charge my packs..."doh!"

I would suggest relocating the steering servo to the other side. I can tell you that the motor weighs a heck of a lot more than the ESC does, so you want to balance it out that way.

Mine use to fly slightly nose down when I had an extreme front weight bias. I think it should fly perfectly level now.


If you relocate your rear body mounts to the rear set of holes drilled on that same plate, then you can mount your ESC on the rearmost part of that arced cutout (the one right infront of where your rear body posts are currently). It should bolt right up using the mounts in the kit. You just need to add a 5mm spacer to it (I just used a set of spare pivot balls). With this and the relocation of your steering servo your weight will be very close to 50/50.


I would also like to point out that weight distribution has a much larger affect on my truck than it does on yours. My truck only weighs in at 9.25 pounds right now, will be easily sub-9 once my Lipo's arrive. With the aluminum kit, aluminum arms and rockers, you are already easily a 1/4-1/2 pound heavier than me (when compared without batteries).

Just kidding. Whatever it take to keep it cool. But that is a huge fan.

I do like the ESC mounted over the rear shocks like that. It gets it out of the way. Pretty slick.

lol...yea...its a big one lol...60mm to be exact. However, it weighs very little and is well worth the cooling it provides. At 12V, it pumps 70CFM, so at 7.2-8.4, I can expect about 40-45CFM, maybe more.

Well, whatever air it moves, its enough to keep my motor temps at 85 degrees geared 70/14, which makes me real happy. It also gives me a good peace of mind knowing I can pretty much never overheat my motor...

Where did you get the black emaxx motor plate? Is that just painted or something??? I hate the stock blue ones, but the balck one looks cool. It just blends the plate into everything else. kinda make it disapear.

Its the upgraded 4mm thick one. I sent it in to MR painting for black anodizing. I also did my RR slipper plate, Revo Bulk Braces, Pro-Line Servo Arm, and Traxxas Aluminum Hex hubs.

To me it looks like your CG is higher than you want it to be. Looks crowded too.

Nice truck for sure but maybe there is a way to re-orient the fans and get the weight lower on the chassis. maybe a lighter/smaller high output motor fan too.
