Charge Rates?

Well, I upgraded to a ICE charger, so now I am in need of some suggestions.

My current charger was only capable of 5 amps, so I just charged my GP3700's at 5 amps...

However, the ICE is capable of 8 amps. I know I shouldn't charge at a full 8 amps, or even 7. I was thinking more around 6 amps, or maybe 5.5.

Will going up past 5 amps have any negative effect on the cells? (by effect I mean more so than the standard more punch but less runtime and harder on the battery as goes with increasing amp rate)

I'm also going to need some recommendations with the peak settings...my old charger did all that automatically (all I did was input charge rate, cell count, and safe timer)

6 is the max you will want to charge them at. Thats what most manufactures recommend.

As for the peak. Set it as low as you can and still get a full charge. It may take a little experimenting to figure out what your charger is capable of. Some are more sensitive to false peaks than others. But start with a lower setting and if you don't get a full charge just start the charge again to finish it and the next time use a setting a little higher until you find the lowest setting that get you a complete charge. Every charger is a little different. Using a higher setting than is required just overheats the batteries more than necessary.

I have 3 different chargers and they all require a different setting when peak charging to get good results.

Well, whats a pretty good starting point? 5mv?

5mV is what I use with my Hyperion. Whatever you select, the pack should feel warm when it peaks. If it's cool it's being undercharged; if too hot, it's being overcharged.

If you can get a good charge at 5mv thats a pretty good charger. I tend to need more like 15 to get a reliable result.

But the Ice is a better charger than the superbrain977 I was using on my nimh, so 5mv is possible. I dont do much nimh charging any more though.

(once you go lipo you never go back:005: )

Yea...thats what I've heard. The only reason I got the ICE is to charge Lipo. I got the 8000mah 2S2P Maxamps Packs.
