Was it discharged all the way before you cut it?

coolhandcountry 12.13.2006 09:29 PM

I had discharged it before hand. I won't that crazy.

BrianG 12.13.2006 09:50 PM

I thought so, but I was curious. :) Plus, other people who might want to dissect their packs should know this as well.

Sylvester 12.13.2006 10:41 PM

So thats what the insides of a lipo look like. great pics leroy:)

MetalMan 12.13.2006 11:10 PM

For those who don't know, cutting open a pack that hasn't been discharged can be quite bad. It could possibly catch on fire, since the metal knife blade causes a bunch of short circuits inside the cell.

Haha :)
you should add a slogan under your "lipo_dissection_pictures" like the ones
in the wrestling ..... "DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME"

:)

Well as you can tell from pics. I was outside as well. I didn't know what to expect.
It was one way to find out. I may try to get a video on the lipo and how
much voltage it will take to flame. It will be done in drive way as well.
I have been curious to what it takes to make one go. It is one way to
find out. :D

MetalMan 12.14.2006 10:13 AM

Here's a little something I did:

coolhandcountry 12.14.2006 10:32 AM

That was pretty cool. What do use to blow it? How many volts was on it?

Procharged5.0 12.14.2006 11:11 AM

Thanks for the pics LeRoy.

Too bad you puffed the pack in the firstplace, but interesting to see the insides!

That was interesting! The pack puffed up alot before it burst into flames!

QUESTION: How many of you have puffed a LiPo battery pack????

MetalMan 12.15.2006 12:04 AM

It was hooked up directly to my 12v 30amp power supply.

I've puffed a number of cells in my time

coolhandcountry 12.15.2006 06:02 PM

I was thinking of hooking a single cell to the ice charger on 8 amps to see
what it would take accually. I want to notice what would happen thru like
a normal charge on nimh mode. I like to see the accual voltage it will take to
puff up and fire. I will let mine burn since it is going to be on dirt.
