Whoa!!! Mamba 18T's ROCK

I had driven my buddies' 18T and 18B a few times. The 18T was stock and the 18B had the Reedy Mini Max motor and Mini Max Battery (basically GP1100's). They were decently fun. You could barely keep the 18B straight on dirt (was very quick).

Anyway, I picked up a FT 18T kit and put it together with a Mamba 6800. I borrowed one of my friend's 6 cell IB1400's and all I have to say is WOW. This is thing is darn fast. Makes my buddy's Mini-Max'ed 18B look stock...and a beat down stock at that.

I cant even imagine how fast its going to be once my 3S lipo's come in. I'm geared 55/12 too (1 tooth under stock). Motor temps were ok. I'll be getting more heatsinks and possibly a fan to keep the temps down more.

Anyone know what is acceptable running temp for a Mamba motor?

Same guidlines should apply regardless of size I would think. Anything up to 180 should be fine.

Yeah, i used my 8K on 6 gp1100's and was impressed by it as well. freaking fast.. I haven't had the change to test the wraith 7K on 3S lipo..

I tried my mamba 8k on 3s in my mini-t. Uncontrolably fast. :018: Very Fun... But pretty much useless for anything except breaking things.

Yeah, i had my 8K in the T on 3S as well.. can you say uncontrolable 2wd fun..

BP-Revo 12.23.2006 06:16 AM

Whoa...8k on 3S in a Mini-T? I haven't even driven a Mini-T (almost did a bunch of times, but my friend would crash and break it before I could get a chance to try it - he put a big block motor in it).

I would imagine you could get well over 60mph out of it...talk about 50mph drifts? lol

More like 50mph cartwheels. :005:

Yeah, that pretty much describes the mini-t as i know it... Mine landed in a ditch.. Kinda hard to steer with that thing cartwheeling..

I have run my 6800 on a 4s lipo geared 20/55 in my 18T and all I can say is........... WOW! It never ran over 180 either.

One funny thing is that now I got a kyosho half 8 st and I put the 6800 motor in it and found out that it doesn't like bigger cars. Got the temps on the motor up to 310:005:. I think the motor is toast...

Yea...I just took it out for a run on 3S lipo's and DANG. This thing MOVES.

I just have to wonder, my motor is getting pretty hot (no temp probe but I can't keep my finger on for more than a second). I'm geared 55/12. I turned the timing advance on the controller to low and I'm going to see if it helps.

Any recommendations on gearing?

Also, my Lipo pack got a little warm...is this ok? It was just luke warm. Probably 85 degrees at most. Is that ok?

MetalMan 12.23.2006 10:27 PM

FYI, 120-130 deg. F might feel burning hot. 135-140 should only be able to pass the 1sec. limit before burning your finger.
Come into Hobby People, and you can get a Duratrax temp. gun for $25 :).

Joe Ford from Castle responded to a thread the other day saying that 200 degrees is about the max for these little motors. Here is the thread.
