soldering motor wire to speed controller
I have noticed that the wires from the 8xl are too big for the Feigao, so I grinded them down enough to make them fit. Is this ok?
Or, should I solder my deans wire to the motor wiring, and then the gold connectors? |
Second question, should I solder the male or female to the motor?
|
male on motor.

Do the 3 wires coming from the speed controller have to be the same length?
Right now, they are not, I had to re-do the solder connect a few times. |
It's better if all wires are the same length when you are done, but if they are a little uneven it shouldn't be a big deal.

why male for the motor, is there a difference
|
I allways did male one the controller, mainly because when i ran a lehner motor, the mtors had the female plugs built into the back of the motor, so when I switched motors I just kept everything the same, and i have been running my controllers this way since 2001, and never had an issue, so that's my reason,, but I really think it might be personal preferance...is all, just my .02 worth......

Rule of thumb says to install any connector so there is no metal exposed on the device providing the power to avoid accidental shorting. When you solder Deans on batteries, you always use the female connector to keep the conductors somewhat protected. Same for the ESC. Let's say you put the male connectors on the ESC and the motor becomes disconnected. Now you would have exposed connectors on the ESC which supplies the power. If they happened to touch the chassis, you'd have some nice sparks and most likely a damaged ESC.

Very true brian, but what do you do when you have no other option when running a lehner motor is all im saying......so I just kept what worked for me, but brian does have a valid point....

Well, I guess if you have no choice, you do what you have to do. :)

WEll if you have a connector come loose on a brushless.
The truck will stutter and cogg. It won't go no where. |
