1/8 buggy shocks for my race truck

Right now I don't currently have the $$$ for Racer X shocks. I was ready to buy until I found out you needed to use the Knuckle head towers also. Can anyone make any reccomendations on 4 1/8 buggy shocks to use? Thanks.

P.S. I'm new here and I'm not sure if this is the ight section to put this in. If it's in the wrong place then feel free to move it Mike.:)

You don't necessarily need the knucklehead towers to make the UE shocks work. What suspension do you have? What shock towers are you using?

Stock a-arms and stock shocktowers. I was told the UE shocks are too long.

They will be close. I think they may actually work if you have them all the way in on the tower and all the way out on the arm. I will try to fit one up in the next day or so to see if it works.

you could always use fuel tubing inside the shock bodies to limit the travel.

It isn't the down travel that is the problem. It is potentially the up travel (or lack of) that is potentially death for the shock towers or bulkheads. it is important that the skids bottom out before the shocks.

Just to let you know, I got some of the UE shocks on mine (stock arms and towers, set up with only 4 shocks), got them a while back from mike and haven't had any probs and its had some pretty hard hits, they run great. Much better the stock ones anyhow. Hope this may help the decision

I too never heard of any problem with the UE shocks on the stock chassis. You have got the new type of suspension i presume? (the wide type, with the 3 mounting options on the towers?)

That's odd, I posted a similiar question on the UE forums a while ago, and people were telling me that you can't use the Racer X shocks with towers. I failed to mention to tell you guys what I'm running now.

I'm running 4 Hotbodies threaded shocks. Unlike most of the Hotbodies shocks, mine don't leak. They are actually pretty nice and I wouldn't mind keeping them, however I find it hard to get a good set-up for my truck it's really hard. Right now I'm running 70 wt. at all for corners with the stock traxxas springs cranked 7/8ths of the way down on the threads. However it is still not a very good set-up.

Do you guys think you could make a reccomendation on a starting point? Just so you know, they're on a e-maxx that weighs in at about 9.5 lbs. ready to throw down and race.

Thanks for your help!

Are they buggy shocks or maxx shocks? 4 maxx shocks will have a tough time handling the weight. Heavy oil and stiff springs!

They're maxx shocks. I was told to go to some Blue trinity springs or some rinity black and try those out. I'll pick some up at my LHS tomorrow and see how those work. Also, I think I may have found some K-head towers and Racer X shocks for only $80. Maybe I'll consider selling some of my old stuff and using that.:D
