brushless novak crawler

I was wondering if any one has tried this system out.
I am thinking of a crawler or not really a crawler but a slow goer.

I was just wonder on comments of it.

If you're looking to go slow, it should work really nice! If you don't want the slow gear for crawling, then what?

coolhandcountry 01.06.2007 09:47 PM

Hmm.
you got a good point. So maybe should stick with sensorless then.
Got more voltage options. The truck to mount to is not going to
be built for speed. Was thinking of a mamba 4600 or go feigao12s.

LOL, I wasn't trying to dissuade you from it, I was just wondering what you wanted the slow speed for. :)

I think it would be great for any low speed application. If not crawling, maybe towing. It would be neat to create a vehicle carrier to carry your R/C to the races. :)

Well you just got me thinking more about it is all. I got a few motor laying around that may work better for the application. I guess need to finish the truck and then decide on system.

I got the Crawler System in my TXT and I think it's pretty good. Besides needing a locking brake for the ESC, it's a nice unit. Novak's working on the issue, so they say.

Well, that system is a dedicated crawling system. However, you can still crawl well with any Novak system if you geared down a bit. The sensored setup makes for silky-smooth driving at any speed - and I mean ANY. I can put around my yard so slow that you would think it wasn't moving and it is as smooth as it is cruising at 10mph. (I'm using an HV6.5).

still runs @ 20k rpm, so it isnt really really slow, real crawlers motor like 55turns lathe run maybe 5000 rpm. on 2s lipo or 6 cell nimh.

coolhandcountry 01.07.2007 10:03 AM

What do you mean by lock brake?

bluonyx 02.12.2007 12:56 PM

If your on an incline and take your finger off the throttle, the rotor doesn't hold it's position. Instead the rig will just roll off the rock or whatever. It doesn't lock and hold it's position. On brushed motors it holds it's spot, but with the Novak's it just rolls off.

I switched to Mamba Max ESC's now and because of the programming possibilities I can set the drag brake to 0% to 100%. It's awesome!

neweuser 02.12.2007 01:04 PM

Well, if you are just going to be "slower", why by a new system? Other than that, I think it would be a good system, but I think, you may want to use what you have with am MM esc... .02
