heat sink came off mamba...

so i was havin some fun in the desert and my heat sink decided to come off my mm 5700 speed controller. how can i put it back on? CA? throw some electrical tape around it... lol (i will do it if it will work) or what can be done to fix this?

thanks

also on my revo the wire got untangled for my glow plug (i tired to pull it out and stretched it) i can use a glow starter for it right? just throw it on top... wait a couple seconds and start it up? and if i can use a glow starter which do you reccomend? i got the os 18 motor if it matters... o and which glow plugs for the revo should i use?

thanks again!

i would use this kind of cream thingy used for electronics (more for heatsinks) and it keeps it together hand helps to transfer heat

if anyone knows the name please tell me i forgot.

There is a thermal epoxy. I think that's what you are referring to.

The paste won't hold the heat sink on.

so what do i do lol i cant really drive it untill i get it together...

While you're at it, you could take this opportunity to use a bigger heatsink if you have any heat problems at all. I wish mine would come off so I could do this. Is the heatsink held on with thermal tape or is it some type of epoxy?

Anyway, you need thermal epoxy (not compound or paste). The best out there is ArcticSilver. They have two types, so make sure you get Arctic Alumina, not the silver adhesive. The silver stuff has silver particles, and while it's not supposed to be electrically conductive, it does have some capacitance which could cause weird issues if it comes in contact with the FET leads.

Just thoroughly mix equal amounts of each tube and apply it to the top of the FETs. Use sparingly! Any excess will just end up squished out onto the circuit board. Hold in place for an hour or two and you'll be set!

Has anybody got a pic of the fets? Would be an opportunity to see what they use

I would just call Castle Creations and have them replace it. Thats not supposed to happen and then if anything goes wrong in the future they will blame you for modifying it.

They repace it quickly.

with the glow starter, if you have the easy start, it may not work. The easy start is intied with the harness I belive. disconnect the easy start and use the pull start or starter box. I use HCR59 i believe for plugs

Sorry I forgot to answer the second question. a glow starter can be used with the easy start, with no problemsI have done it and a friend still does it. you can clip the blue and yellow wires to prevent tangles. I prefer the glow starter over the ez-start setup, more power to the starter

ok cool i was hoping i didnt have to buy a new ez start system! ima contact castle creations and see what they want me to do. i already contacterd them and asked what i should do about replacing the outer casing (i dragged mine about 50 feet on accident going WOT and it messed it up pretty bad) they said no problem nd they have one shipped out to me as we speek. if they say no replacement will happen then i will just upgrade the heat sink!

if you would like me to take some pics of the "FETS" dont knwo what those are... im guessing there those little square things. but ill take some pics if you want.

You are correct. And actually, the easy start system is not that expensive. Just get one off ebay. I know I ahve a nextra one laying around here somewhere as well. What went wrong with the one you have?

Yes, the square things are the FETs. If you can, try to get a good shot at the part numbers on there, or simply post them.

Oh, and how was the heatsink held on there? I'm thinking thermal tape?

t-maxxracer32 01.15.2007 12:17 AM

well its no that expensive i just wanted to use the glow starter anyways. the one i have i stretched the red wire coil part that connects to the glow plug and now the plug wont heat up no more.

t-maxxracer32 01.15.2007 12:18 AM

idk theres some white glue like substance on it. will get pics later probably.

On an easy start, the red wire should go to the easy start motor, not the glow plug (at least on my jato's it does), the blue wire should go to the glow plug...
