Hyper 7 conversion progress
With some info from mtucker and other folks here combined with some surfin', we've gone from this:
http://gallery.rctrack.info/d/689-2/stock.jpg To this: http://gallery.rctrack.info/d/707-2/back.jpg Other direction: http://gallery.rctrack.info/d/710-2/front.jpg I've got a whole boatload of pics of the process here: http://gallery.rctrack.info/sleebus_jones/Hyper7/ Its not been quick, but been pretty fun so far. The last of the bits and pieces will be coming this week, so I'll get the motor mounting slots machined in probably next weekend (darn overtime!) and *maybe* I'll get it running. Thanks for all your input, folks! Sleebus |
hey, thats nice its definatly going to do the job. lets get a video also!
|
Nice job you are getting there
|
I wish I had tools like those :). Great job on the mount, it came out very nicely!

Thanks for the comments, guys! I'm glad my dad likes his toys as much as I do! He's planning on CNCing the mill, so that could have some very good benefits in the future. I figure we've got at least another hour or so on it before it's finished. It looks so simple when you see the start pic to the end pic. Looking at the gallery shows there were a LOT of intermediate steps to get there. We're definitely in the home stretch now, all the critical alignment stuff has been done, so the rest should be cake! I can almost hear the ESC arming already!

It's done! Here's a shot from the back
http://gallery.rctrack.info/d/757-2/doneback.jpg Annnnnd another shot from the front. http://gallery.rctrack.info/d/760-2/donefront.jpg Looks good eh? Ok, here's a shot of the whole buggy http://gallery.rctrack.info/d/763-2/donetruck.jpg One last closeup shot of the mount with it ready to go http://gallery.rctrack.info/d/766-2/donetruckclose.jpg I'm running with 11/46 gearing (and that's a 10L motor for those of you not taking notes :) ). With 3S going up and down the street, I'm guessing I might be hitting 100 degrees. It's just barely warm to the touch, the motor and ESC. It's pretty peppy, spins all four panthers on concrete with no problem. 12 cells (or 4S) is really going to make it come alive. I think I've got some room on the gearing too. Now just to mount everything so it stays where it's supposed to! |
Nice!
Get some vids of it sleeb!:) |
very nice like the mount
|
Thanks! I'm going to make up a Y-Harness so I can hook up 12 cells tonight. I don't have a UBEC, so i'll have to use a RX pack. Should be fun testing :)

Just curious, is the motor mount mounted to the chassis? If it isn't, you may want to consider doing that, as the center diff supports are plastic and will flex from the motor's weight (from things like doing jumps).
|
Yes, it's hard to see but there's a screw opposite the motor on the "foot" of the L. If I were to do it over again, I'd extend the foot a bit out so I could hit another screw hole on the other side. That one screw does make it pretty darn sturdy tho.

Let us know how it holds up to extreme bashing!

Oh, and I gave it a shot on 12 cells today: http://gallery.rctrack.info/d/769-2/top.jpg Very much a quick rig-up proof of concept job. It works, and works darn good. Limited space (and sight distance at night) so I wasn't able to run it much. The Mamba Max and the motor were just warm, no heat problems at all. The motor was slightly hotter, so I can probably go up a few teeth. It's a hoot to drive, crazy acceleration. I need to get my road rage tires mounted up before I destroy these panthers! Sleeb |
