Glitching makes Stampede undriveable
Ok, how do I isolate and eliminate glitching? First, batteries are getting too hot, I solve that problem then the controller is too hot so it's thermalling on me. I added a cooling fan and now it's glitching so bad and eraticly I can't control it. Is it possible it's the radio and not the motor and ESC? I'm using the Airtronics MX-3S radio and the Synth receiver it comes with. I'm about ready to toss the motor and controller in the trash and go back to a brushed motor if this keeps up.:o :o :o

I used to have the MX-3S and while I did not have any glitching problems with it, the person I sold it to at my local shop had all kinds of glitching problems in a XXX-T.
He installed a Novak XXTra receiver and hasn't had a problem since. If you have the opportunity to try another radio and/or receiver, definitely give it a shot. |
The motor/controller most likely aren't causing the glitch. What has changed besides the fan? Make sure the antenna isn't touching any CF or aluminum, including motor/controller wires.

Do I get this right: It was fine before the fan, and then the trouble started? Only difference being the fan mod?
So how did you wire the fan, then. Are you using a regulator? |

I moved the antenna forward to the hole the front brace screws in to and made a shield from 2 sheets of tin foil and 2 sheets of card board and put that in front of the ESC and fan. It's setup more as a reflector than a box to cover it up so the fan can still pull in air to keep the ESC cool. So far it's the most glitch free since I put the brushless in. If it works out after a few more runs, I'll come up with a hinge for it since I gotta flip it up to put the battery in. Quote:
The fan is wired to the switched side of the battery. Never thought of using a regulator for it. I was thinking about maybe figuring a good size for a capaciter to put on it, like the brushed motors have. |
Have you got another set of batteries?
nimh's can't stand the heat, they die when they get too hot too long or too often. Your using an UBEC right? |
My 7018, 8s setup in my rusty glitched horribly when i was using the ESC's BEC. I put on a reciever pack and now i can reach my radio's limits no problem. If you arent using a reciever pack you may want to try it out.
BTW, i'm using a baseline HiTech 2 channel 75Mhz AM. |
Don't get discourged. I have a similar glitching problems with a Airtronics MX3 in a G-Maxx. Tryed the foil, mylar, rearranged wires, setup, a dozen times with no success. I have since installed a 2 channel AM radio receiver, it works flawless. Currently run single speed. I read of a similar problem in another forum, the user stated they contacted Airtronics, "there may be an issue with some of the systems, send it in". I will also give them a call. Keep your progress updated, I'm curious of your results.

Here's an update. I went ahead and bought a Novak XXtra synth receiver for it. Somehow at work friday when the Pede decided to pick a fight with a curb and lost the tinfoil shield I made fell off; only broke the right caster block doing about 30 or so. Anyways, ran a 6 cell pack with no shielding anywhere and there was no glitching whatsoever. Went past where I'd get glitching with the Airtronics reciever and no loss of control. You were right on about that reciever Batfish; thanks for suggesting it.:D |
You're welcome. Glad I could help :)
