Newbie here, ?'s about what to buy.

First off hello all and thanks for a great site with lots of good info.
Now on to what I have. Im am new to the whole rc world and have an emaxx with a few upgrades I just purchased.
Gorillamaxx carbon fiber chassis & motor mount.
Integy shocks, a-arms, shock towers, f&r bumpers, chassis braces, skid plates and body posts.
Once I get all of this in I plan on looking to get a new motor and batteries, but have no clue as to what to get. Any advice would be much appreciated and I'd like as many opinions as I can get also. What I'm looking to spend more is around 750 or so. But I would like to get everything else I need. I would like to upgrade the drivetrain parts to what I need to hold up to the power. Guess first off I would like to know what motor and esc and batteries would be the best. Im not looking to get a whole lot of speed, but would like to at least leave behind a stock 3.3 T-maxx. If I need to go beyond the budget then o well guess I will. But if you guys could give me some info and some links on what I should get. If you would go into specific detail that would be great as well seeing that I know about next to nothing on batteries and brushless motors and whats good and not. I was considering gettting the hv-maxx 4.5 setup since its not too expensive and seemed to be like it would be easy to install and do. But from what I've read on here seems like they are not that good.So to sum it all up im looking for a complete listing on what I need drivetrain, motor, esc, batteries and a charger/accessories. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated and I will most definately post pics up when i get this project completed. Thanks in advance to all you contribute to my work in progress.

chassis braces are not needed with the gmaxx chassis. a good esc is the mamba moster maxx or the quark 125b. a good motor choice would be a feiago 7xl or 8xl. Also would ditch the metal bumpers they are bad for the car if you hit something with metal bumoers the will transfer shock to the rest of the car which is not good and you might break other expensive parts. I would definatly get aluminum bulkheads which would be something like the combo bulks that use stock diffs or the hybrid bulks that use buggy diffs for lots of stregnth. Many people here will tell you to stay away from the novack stuff. Also the body posts (aluminum ones) need to go the first time you go upside down they will bend and it will be harder and harder to get you body on metal body posts are a big no no. as for the rest of the stuff you got it seems to be ok i would try to stay away from the integy stuff. the arms might hold but not as strong as others the skids are fine for your use. though you wont need a center skid with the gmaxx chassis. the shock towers are fine but again not the best you can get but fine. the shocks, many people run here and i have a set of msr5 shocks the reason they and i have them is for looks they work better than stock yes but no where near next to the performance of others. I actually have some of these shocks and they have never been used and i immediatly bought a set of traxxas bigbores and i will have these brand new unused shocks laying around because the bigbores are just much better. Now that i told you what you could do let me highly complimet you on the gmaxx purchase that is one if not the best chassis you can buy for a maxx it is one of many parts that performs better than it looks and yes this is possible. all in all you are on the right track. and all of the stuff you have you can use exept for sure the chassis braces and the center skid plate (are not compatable with gmaxx chassis comes with that stuff in a sense) but i highly recommend not to use aluminum body posts and bumpers. BTW welcome to the forums (sorry for the longness) Hopefully others will chime in for additional info to help you

I'll second most of what Gmaxx360 said.

Most of the integy product is marginal at best. NEVER buy the Integy bulkheads. Saltine crackers posess more strength! Lose the aluminum bumpers & body posts (I can tell you from personal experience they will do more harm than good)

The Mamba maxx and 8XL are a good combo on 12 cells or 4S Li-Po. Get the Quark or Warrior 9920 if you plan to run a greater number of cells. If your budget allows the Lehner 1940-8 and the Neu 1515/1Y are excellent motors that run cooler, offer better durability and more efficiency.

The G-Maxx chassis is a great choice. You'll love it.

i knew he could run neu or lehner but i figured he should spend less on the motors so he can spend more money on batts, stregnthing stuff, like good diffs and cvds, and a speed control.

I don't disagree with that at all. Any build-up should be a balance of durability, power, and handling! That's why my Supermaxx has taken so long! Lack of available time is a big part of it but $$$ is the other.

I still thing the 9920/8XL-C/UBEC is a GREAT combo. Can't beat it for $277!

I debated that combo heavily before deceiding on the MM/NEU combo. I'll be upgrading the MM to the MMM when it comes out and the MM will end up in another car or truck.

Get tired of typing "MAMBA MAXX" so MM & MMM have become universally understood abbreviations much like ESC, BL, TX, etc.

Sorry for the confusion!

no no confusion i know what you mean just want to mess around with you i know what it means it cool man.

So what drivetrain setup would you guys recommend? I would like to replace all the gears and shafts. I would actually like to increase my budget and get a good motor and esc now. Good batteries and charger. So can someone put me a list together of that stuff if you dont mind.

GorillaMaxx360 01.23.2007 10:30 PM

unlimited engineering and mip should do for cvds, maby a g1 single speed conversion will help with the brushless, also a steel idler from rc monster and that should be all for the gears and transminsion. good batteries for bashing and reliability would be a123 batterys they are rekiable safe lipos and they charge up in 15 minutes. or you could go with some maxxamps 8000mah batteries which will give you 45 minutes of runtime of take 1.5 hour to charge but are not as safe for bashing. a good charger wold be the duratrax ice, but if you get the a123 batteries deal it comes with a charger in the combo.
