Where do I get a tool for removing C clips on shocks.
Where can I find a tool made for removing/inserting the C clips when rebuilding shocks. Any tips or tricks are appreciated.
Here is the only picture I could find. Not very clear but you get the idea. http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/5...nlarged6kf.jpg |
These should be what you are looking for:
http://www.mcmaster.com Catalog Pages 2688 and 2689 just type 2688 in the search box and hit find. It should take you right to it. Sorry, the website wont let me direct link for some reason. |
wow did not know they made such a thing

snap ring pliers
|
Snap ring pliers are also available at industrial hardware stores, SEARS, better automotive supply/parts stores, Mcmaster, J&L Industruial Tool, ENCO tool, ETC.
|
Ok I did a search on ebay for snap ring pliers and came up with these.
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Combination-...QQcmdZViewItem Hopefully one of the tips is small enough to work with traxxas big bore shocks. |
They are not small enough. I picked up a set similar to these and the tips were too large. You can carefully file the tips down slightly to fit however.
Or drop a few more $$ ($20-$30) and buy a good set at sears or elswhere that includes smaller tips that are of high quality steel to prevent bending. |
I used normal pliers and put mine on.

If I have an extra snap-ring or two, I usually just rip them off however I can and simply put new ones on. Of course, if you do this often, you'll be better off getting the tool, but if you do it once or twice, it's cheaper to get the rings IMO. :)

I bought a set from my local autozone, they were too big, so with a dremel and a grinding stone i got them down to what i needed
|
Ok I'll check both autozone and sears tomorrow. I already ordered that cheap one off ebay, only $6.98 shipped so I don't feel to bad about them not working.
|
i use a screw driver for mine, never bent one. And pliers.(-)=flat head.
|
i use a flathed screwdriver or a small pair of semi short needlenose plires.
