Lipos

Hey guys. How much am I looking at to run a lipo setup with the feigao 9l? charger also

I need some longer runs times! maybe to race the nitros. over 15mins.

What things should I know about them?

Rcbros 05.04.2005 10:22 AM

anyone? i'll be running a e-maxx

RC-Monster Mike 05.04.2005 08:02 PM

Not cheap for sure! The new Kokams look like a winner for batteries and a charger, but you must have some $$$ to get your foot in the door.

Rcbros 05.04.2005 08:05 PM

lol. Yeah I'm looking for a ruff ball park. More then likely i'll just get some guys to buy e-maxx's but i'm curious as well.

Serum 05.05.2005 04:05 AM

That Kokam Mike is talking about it a 3200mAh, it can throw out 20C, meaning it is able to push out 64A.

A 3S pack is about 130 dollar. (11.1V)

I don't know about chargers in the US, i know what is available here in Europe..

Chase023 05.05.2005 05:16 AM

I use a Astro Flight 109 and it does the job very well in charging my Lipo Cells.

I only use Lipos for my XRAY M18, but maybe I hope to use lipos for my other RCs.

HotnCold 05.05.2005 06:24 AM

Thats the combo i have - I run a 5S Lipo and an astroflight 109 - No Problems as of yet - the 3S kokam, like serum stated, is about 130 and the astroflight cost me about 110 if i remember correctly. Very easy to use charger as well...

rcjmaxx 05.05.2005 04:12 PM

How does the power/performance of the Kokam 11.1v 3 cell lipos compare to GP 14 cell 16.8v nickel-metals? Does the weight savings really make up the difference?

Serum 05.05.2005 04:20 PM

They can't work miracles..

It is 11.1 to 16.8 volt..
if you threw in 4 S lipoly, the compare would be better. Then the 4S would be one very nimble ride!

HotnCold 05.05.2005 04:43 PM

Nimble to say the least - Its amazing the power those lipos put out in such a small compact package....

hevymetl 05.08.2005 03:03 PM

What about a pair of 7.4v's in place of paired stick packs, ie. e-maxx or novak hv-maxx? They are only $48 for 2100 mah each. More expensive than 2400 sticks, but lighter. Would the price be worth it if I had the charger covered?

Serum 05.08.2005 03:51 PM

Hi Hevymtl!

Nice to see you found your way here!

Those lipoly cells are a league on their own! (in weight and performance) The thing with the HVmax is that it does not puls a lot of amps, and you will be doing fine with those 2100's (i presume you are talking about the maxamps 20C lipo?)

If you are looking for a some 'hotter' setup the Kokam 3200's are a better choice though.

Lipoly is the future.

hevymetl 05.08.2005 06:27 PM

Glad to be here! Seems I have alot of research (and question asking!) to do. It's so much easier when there's the experience of so many people to look through, even if the amount I've decided to bite off seems a little intimidating at first. I kind of want to understand as much as possible first, not just copy someone's setup.

hevymetl 05.12.2005 09:19 PM

The new FMA Direct Scorpion charger and batteries looked interesting at first, with the auto low voltage cut-off ( did'nt even know that was necesssary ) and the set and forget charger, but then I looked at the prices:

https://www.fmadirect.com/site/fma.h...roducts&cat=32

whew! Maybe a couple pairs of 7cell packs will do to get started...

Batfish 05.12.2005 09:27 PM

Not that it's a huge difference in price, but both Tower Hobbies and Horizon Hobby have the pieces listed at lower prices than FMA Direct. It's still a hefty price, but if you are just getting ready to go lipo it's a great place to start, at least on paper.
I expect to have my scorpion setup in just about a month. I'll report back once I have some information. The write-up in RCDriver is very favorable.
