Looking for cheap radar gun to check speeds.
 

Anyone know a good place to buy one. Would like to check my speeds so I can how fast my trucks are really going. Doesn't matter if its used, refurbished or whatever. Just whatevers cheap.

hot wheels has one but i bet it doesnt work like it should. have you tryed ebay?

The Bushnell radar guns work OK for what you pay for them.You can find them on ebay pretty cheap....about $100 or so.I have one and for speeds under 100 mph it seems to work OK.It does seem to miss a lot of passes once you get up to 120 or above when clocking fast planes

Don't get the Hot Wheels radar gun. It has been discussed before on this and other forums and it does not work well unless you are pretty much right on top of the vehicle being measured. Too bad though - it would be a nice alternative for the price.

I was even thinking of modding one for better results. But after searching the net a while, much smarter people than myself have tried and gotten so-so results. Even then, it was too expensive and/or time consuming for the results...

Buy right once instead of buying twice...

Ok I bought a Bushnell Velocity off ebay for $69.99. Hopefully it should work.

Anyone use GPS for speed testing? Anyone have any sugestions as to a good, small, light GPS unit for strapping into a truck?

If you use a GPS, make sure it has a fast enough sampling rate to be accurate. The Garmin I have in my car seems to update every second. In an R/C, you could hit a top speed that may not register on the GPS unless it is sustained.

I use a Garmin eTrex, and it too seems to update only once a second. When you're at full throttle for only 1sec. because you don't have much room during a speed run, it can be frustrating.
