building a house for my a123 cells
hey guys well i was looking at my a123 packs after a day of bashing and they are sad. i cut them up pretty bad... now im looking for a way to house them. i thinking of lexan or plexi glass. just cut a simple triangular shape. will these make them heat up more? they never get hot as is so i dont want to make it a problem. lmk how yu think this will work. i will be making a custom chassis made out of lexan or something also though so fitting it wont be a problem. also can i get lexan or plexi glass or something somewhere in town? ie lowes... home depot.. and so on
thanks |
use lexan not plexiglass.. might be able to get it at the hardware mine don't sell it thick enough for a chassis.. made a rustler chassis with lexan I bought off ebay.. It held up great.. was extended also..

Like phil said lexan is stronger. I think ive seen it at lowes, i doubt home depot has it. Just ask around and you should find some.

How did they get cut up? Heat shrink tubing (of a large size) should be all that's necessary. That's what I'm using for my A123-cell packs.
|
You're not supposed to use your batts as skid plates. ;)
|
lol i didnt have very good straps and they fell out while i jumped it... only jumped it in grass so its not too bad. ya after i posted this i thought abuot heat shrink but the only guy in town who has it wants 40 bucks for 4 feet of it. which isnt bad but i dont need that much...
what size would i need for the 3s1p a123 cells? thanks! |
You can get heat shrink for less than a dollar a foot from Maxamps. You'll probably want to get some that's ~70-80mm wide.
|
i couldnt find any on max amps... ill try again though
|
nvm found some lol... 83mm good? or 68mm?
|
You might want to try both. It's so cheap, it wouldn't hurt to have any extra laying around.
|
you are a smart man. any diff between clear and black besides color? i mean is clear just as thick? i think id rather clear... not sure
thanks! o and what would work for an 8 cell 3300 pack? thanks! |
Just FYI, you can get lexan at Home Depot and Lowes, some might not have it thick enough, but they do around here if I'm not mistaken.
|
Some glass shops carry lexan as well. Some around here have many colors!
|
hmm ill have to call around today and see if any do!! what other material would be worth the time to make a chassis?
thanks! |
aluminum, fiberglass, carbon fiber
