powerstroke shock spring questions
The stock springs (yellow/red) are rated as what? I see that you can buy soft, firm and ultra firm and perhaps others. Anyhow Im not real crazy bout the stock colored ones as the ride height of the truck rides to low, but if I crank em down then its to stiff. I know nothing bout shock set up so please help. Im looking for max ground clearance yet supple ride. FWIW im running 30w oil.
Another thing is the truck dont seem to bottom out when compressing the front or rear. Is this a good or bad thing. Im thinking that if I slammed the ground to hard it might damage the shock if the skids wont make contact:002: This is for a emaxx. Thanks |
i'd try other shock angles first.
other angles may allow your truck to bottom out properly. |
For maximum ground clearance you need to position the shocks as far to the center of the truck as possible. I don't know what towers you use.
It's not bad when a truck bottoms out on a jump, as long as skids touch the ground, your shocktowers/shocks/bulks will be safe. With the powerstrokes however; the deeper the by-pass shock is compressed, the 'thicker' the oil gets. (the harder the damping) so with the powerstrokes you need to find a position that puts the skids to the ground if you press the truck down, while the shocks are almost at an end. (then you have got the full effect of the powerstrokes by-pass shocks) the springs included in the set are known as medium. not the softest, and not the stiffest.. the sit between the stiff and the soft once, while there still is an 'ultra stiff' So out of 4, they are number 2 on the list, while 1 is the softest and 4 the stiffest. |

Ok, the stock towers are the problem since I cannot move the shocks inward while allowing the shock to be fully uncompressed. So, what towers to I want. Im not a "bling" kinda guy, I just want good$ and quality parts. I have the stock chassis and will probably have it for a while, however it would be nice if the new towers would fit both.

You could try the RPM's. But your travel should be the skids hitting the ground.

yes, I made that adjustment already.......and with the stock towers and the proline shocks that makes for a pretty low ride height. Basically the a-arms are straight now.

The FLM's are fair cheap and look nice. but since they are aluminum they tend to be harder on your plastic bulks.

I read that the flm ones have a "one bolt system" for mounting the shocks. Thats sounds like a great feature. On this site or Flm's I didnt see a pic of the tower, can someone throw up a pic?
Do the rpm ones have a lot of mounting holes? Thanks! |

It's quite possible that you might run into the same problem with the RPM's.

Thanks for the pic Serum. Squee if thats the case then I don't want those. On the FLM's do the stock body mounts still attach to the towers?
What I need in a tower is more hole choices that are located higher and inward on the tower to get the shocks moved inward without compressing the shock while its in the resting position, am I making sense? Since I have not got my rpm arms(3.3's)mounted yet I dont know if that will make any difference in combination with the stock towers or not. |
