MM 5S and the LVC

Well I'm pleased to say that my setup on my LST2 conversion is working great. Finally got my ESC mounting, wiring and battery tray issues solved. I've been running 5S 6000mah Maxamp pack with the LVC on the MM custom set at 15.2V without any issues. Well I often switch between the 5S and a 4S pack and when I went to reset the LVC the Castlelink software prompted me to upgrade to the latest revision. Without thinking about it I did the update. Now here is the problem. The ESC now cuts out almost immediately with the 5S pack. Almost like blipping the throttle then no response at all. Without resetting the LVC it will run fine with the 4S pack. Now if I select Auto-Lipo for the LVC the 5S pack will run. Anyone else run into this

You mean that with the new software, you set the LVC same as before, 15.2v... but now it cuts out when it didn't before?

But it works fine on Auto lipo?

That's odd. What version do you have now?

riceman 01.27.2007 01:44 AM

Yep - I went from Version 2.18 to 2.22. The fact that it cuts out when LVC is manually set to 15.2 and not when set to Auto Lipo is interesting to me since the controller is not even supposted to support anything over 3S. I now wonder if will truly shut down at 15V. I'll have to hook up the voltage sensor on the Nomadio and find out for sure.

Be careful, the auto settings are supposed to be for 2s and 3s

You can count the amount of beeps it produces, isn't it? it just beeps as many times as the number of S cells you throw at it..?

I have never tryed the auto feature, I'm almost afraid to try the update on my 5s combos, it looks like castle may be trying to limit them

That makes sense..

You upgraded the software on the computer, not the sw on the controller.

uninstall, reinstall without update. Let us know what ya find out. I havent updated because I was thinking something like that may happen. I dont blame em, you gotta be spot on with the gearing, but if so you are golden...runs ice cold.

Update

Okay - here's a new twist. I wanted to try to duplicate everything and start testing different scenarios. So I reconnected the MM to the comupter using the latest 2.2 V of the software and set the LVC back to 15.2. I installed the 5S pack and expected to see it immediately cut out. It did not. It ran perfectly. WTF!:030: So now I suspect it may be related to something else so on a a whim I re-peaked the battery. Put in 0.46A back in and up to full 21V. Re-installed the battery and guess what? It now cuts out as it did before. Hmmm... the floor is open to discussion...:032:

I don't see why an update on the Phoenix Link software should affect the LVC characteristics of your ESC. Or am I missing something here?
I thought there is no software update for the MM yet.

And yeah, I read the upgrade history of the Link, and the MM is not mentioned.

riceman 01.28.2007 09:10 AM

You are right Dafni. An software update should not affect the Mamba firmware. Usually when there is a major software revision the module firmware will come along with it and you will be prompted to install the firmware when installing the software. Not the case here. My first thought was that in the process of updating the software revision, the default settings are somehow changed but thinking about it more that shouldn't happen since the MM settings are retrieved fron the ESC when it is connected to the computer.

As I metnioned earlier I think the problem lies with the voltage or amperage coming from the fully charged pack. I'll play around with that some more and see what I can determine.

make sure you have the red wire pulled on the ESC going to Rx. It will run perfect at 19.2v with it installed, but at 21v it cuts out. It will run for a sec and shut off. Even if you pulled it, make sure it didnt slip back into the plug.

Its got to be something else, I just remembered the MM in my Gmaxx was programmed after the 2.22 update and it runs 5s fine
