Mamba max Vs 9920, Your vote.

Before I order my new esc for the emaxx, I just wanted to get some opinions on these two entry level speedys.

I'll probably be only running Nimh packs, 12 -14 cells and 7xl motor with UBEC.

Which would you buy? $180 Vs $140?

For anything over 12 cells, I'd go 9920 for reliability.

I've had both and I'd go with the mamba max for the cell count you listed..

Mamba max all the way, I have two running on 4s and 5s lipo's and they run good

BP-Revo 01.26.2007 10:51 PM

Mamba Max by far.

The MM can stand up to 5S lipo (some have even run 6S!!), so it should handle 14 cells fine - plus, its rated for 12 cells already.

Castle themselves have said it will handle 14 cells, as long as you disable the internal BEC and use an external one. My vote also goes for the Mamba Max. Here's why:
-less expensive (I can get them for $100, normally $135-140)
-MUCH more adjustable
-smoother
-smaller
-better customer support (BK's has been terrible for me)

Amen on all counts.

BP Revo, the 6s is A123 cells which is equivilent to about 5.5 s lipo

Mamba Max for me. I can still see buying a 9920 if you need a cheap controller for high voltage though.

Who ran 6s? Mine fried on 5s. I dont buy it.

Just buy a 2 pole motor with either one of them. I know some will argue with me that it works great, but In my experience the MM doesnt run the Neu 4 pole motors well (at least not as well enough for me) and its common knowledge that the 9920 doesnt run 4 pole either.

9920 was intended for an emaxx size application. The MM was not. The MM performs well for what it is, but IMO the 9920 is the more appropriate choice for a monster truck. You can upgrade to the MMM when it comes out. Of course the support on the MM is FAR superior to the 9920. Its a tough one to call. They both have there ups and downs.

MetalMan 01.27.2007 02:20 AM

cart123 did 6s A123.

jhautz 01.27.2007 02:29 AM

A123 is a different story. I still doubt it would run like that for long. 5s (lipo) seems to be the limit, (and pushing that limit.) The MM on 14 cells is more realistic for an everyday setup.

I just dont want to see people reading that and thinking it can run 6s. Some are obviously confused already.

Ozmaxx 01.27.2007 02:32 AM

And to think I almost ordered the 9920 ...:005:

MetalMan 01.27.2007 02:53 AM

Woops. For some reason the letter c at the beginning of both of your names confuses me, and it seems I never know who is who. It's fixed.

crazyjr 01.27.2007 02:56 AM
