G2R Chassis dogbones dont fit!
 

I've just put together my G2R revo conversion but my dogbones are slightly out. The rear one is about 2mm too long and the front one is 2mm too short. I don't care too much about the short one it still fits, its just sloppy. I know my single speed tranny is in the right way, it can only really go in one way.

Has anyone had this problem?

I can either drill holes in my Xbraces right next to the existing ones so the tranny moves 2mm; or drill holes in the plastic tranny right next to the existing holes. Either option sucks because it'll weaken my beast. The third option is to find somewhere that makes custom length dogbones.

What do yous reckon??

The bones should fit, unless something went wrong with packing.

the slop on 1 sounds fair to me. You need a bit of play. Perhaps the slot of one of the cups isn't deep enough? or the hole that holds the ball of the dogbone isn't wide enough? what might go wrong too; the cups on the transmission/diff can be mounted wrong.

If all this is okay;

What you can do to get your sled going on a short term; take a dremel and knock off a piece of the shaft of the outputshaft on the transmission.. Make two notches on it, and you are good to go..

this may be wrong but one is 2mm to long and the other is two short reverse them But you probably already tried this just thought i menton it cause it sounds like it would work

Maybe try reversing the tranny?

You may not have the cups on the rear all the wayIf they are not on the holes they will be tight

I have the problem of the sloppy one. I had to put some o rings in the cups to take up the slop or the bone tended to want to pop out. No all the way, just enough to jam it up. But the long bone sounds like you have something not quite right in the assemblt. Like crazy said. Check that all of the cups are on all the way.

maby use like springs from a pen and put them in the diff cup that will push the dog bon outward losing the wgglyness and allowing it to move back to the front of the dogbone if under pressure but since the tranny is stationary it will just stay in the same place they use the same theory on the associated 18t. The dogbones are not long enough so they just use a spring to push them out untill they are long enough but not far out enough to where they fall out.

I use springs that normally come in a an 18T that hold the dogbones.

There's a link. That what I use on my G2R and it works great. I like it better than using spacers like fuel tubing or shims because they will give and allow the dogbone to move around if anything happens (but wont let it bounce and rattle all over the place).

yes what i was talking about but sometimes at least for me to find just the springs alone so i just used pen springs but it all works the same.(man tower hobby sells everything and every little part to everything they sell)

Well, they have to sell replacement parts.

That is where most of the margins are. (margins are profit)

I started the build of my G2R this weekend and I do have the exact same problem as dogboy.

The front one is very loose in the cups but this is easily repaired with whatever the methods.

The rear one, even with both cups backed out at max, the dogbone is so tight that it push on the ring gear shaft so hard that it makes turning the diff really difficult, making it very notchy. Not good.

Since this is my first Revo, I made some mistakes during the assembly. Like assembling one of the diff case opposite to what it should be. Because when I turn manually either the front or rear wheels, the other wheel set turn in the opposite direction. :007:

I have no idea which one though. Anyone know if both diff cases are reversible in the bulkheads or only one and if so, which one. This would help me a lot. Thanks.

I'll take care of the dogbone problem only after having repaired the diff trouble. Just in case it would solve the dogbone mystery at the same time.:eek:
