Race E-maxx tires
 
I'm trying to find the best tires to use for my race e-maxx. Right now I'm using the standart pro-line bowties on wide offset velocity rims. Most the revo's at my track seem to be using the 3.8 rims and the response tires. The car seems very unstable and its hard to get it to go where i want it to.

Go with some Proline Crime Fighter MTR or Bowtie MTR tires with there molded inserts and there Velocity rims as well.

Thats what I was thinking of doing, but should I get the wide offset or standard velocity rims? Someone said part of the reason my car is so unstable is because it isn't long enough, like a revo. With the offset rims its almost as wide as it is long.

Also, since the traxxas race tires are on 3.8" rims, would they have less sidewall flex than the proline ones?

most likely.
if your wheelbase is stock lenght it isnt really good to use offset rims.
truggy's are also 415mm wide and have 14 inch wheelbase.
a maxx with standard rims is 414mm wide and has 12 inch wheelbase.
keep stock offset rims.

Ok thanks, so are the pro-line MTR's better than the traxxas race tires i see people using? What about the difference between the MTR and the normal MT?

Pro-lines last longer than the traxxas.
MTR has lower side walls than the normal MT.

No, the MTR just has the ribs on the inside to prevent ballooning...Nothing to do with the height.

Squee, from what i understood, these ribs are there to serve other purposes. In fact the ribs would make it balloon more, it adds weight.. they make the tires stiffer. if the ribs contained wires, i would prevent ballooning

I have the MTR's. They really don't balloon as much and I didn't tape mine at all, the ribs are not only on the inside of the wall, but they go around the tires as well. The sidewall ribs make the sidewall a tad stiffer to reduce sidewal flex. Also, the sidewalls aren't narrower as in height, but they are width wise compared to the reg MT tires.
the ribs do add weight which I did not like too much. I would use the non-offset velo's...

The MTRs have less sidewall because they are narrow tires, they ballon like any others.

Pick a narrow tire (any of the MTR's) and a lightweight wheel. Set up suspension with 50% sag. Use a super fast servo. Do this and you will be running with the best of them.

proline does claim that the mtr are supposed to balloon less, but as you say that's not what they are all about.

I'm going to get some CF MTRs next summer... they look sweet for most tracks. Most guys I know say the Bowties wear better than the CF but I want some CF anyway.

yea man, I am running the CF right now. If they balloon less, I cant tell it. Chances are its not your driving, I have seen alot of people all over the track and drove their trucks and wow....I could see why. Setup is everything on an E-maxx, especially a shorty stocker.

A stock emaxx wheelbase is too short... not stable for racing. I stretched mine about 1.5" way back when... and it's always been pretty easy to drive.

I'll get a pic to post of my not-so-fancy homemade emaxx racer. Can you say diamond plate? :)
