Here ya go. A beautiful day outside, so it's a great time to give the Hyper a good run. Here's the specs:
So, next steps are:

Looks good sleeb. Im sure lipo will put you up there!
|
looks good.

I don't think you will have any trouble hitting 40 on a good 4s pack... just drop a 16 or 18 pinion on it and it's cake. :)
|
sleebus,
Nice job. The cold whether you are having is definitely helping you out with the temps. I don't have much experience with 1/8 scale brushless, but I do know that the Lipo pack will give you an added kick. Where do you get a 16T pinion anyway? What kind of runtimes are you getting? |
@ GD: wow, I would think that's gearing it pretty high, but i'm rather inexperienced with the L can motors. So far I'm pretty impressed! As for a good 4S pack, would a maxamps 4S 20C 4000mAh pack meet that requirement, or should I look for something better? I certainly like the maxamps price, but it doesn't do me much good if they aren't quality packs...
@ AAngel: Thanks! I belive that Mike has the 16T pinions in the store here Sleebus |
Century makes mod1 pinions (helicopter brand available at TowerHobbies) up to 16T... and the 18T can be made easily from emaxx tranny parts.

Looks great. Nice seeing the video!

Very nice Sleeb. I like the buggy you have. I think maxamps are good. I have 5 lipo packs from him and are doing great.

sleebus,
I've used several maxamps packs. From 2S2P 8Ah 7.4v packs to 3S2P 8Ah 11.1v packs and haven't been disappointed. I haven't had any heat issues with them and the all accepted at least their rated capacity when I charged them. If you look at just the specs of the motor and batteries, the 4S 4Ah pack is capable of an 80A constant load and up 120A for a 30 second sustained burst. The 10L motor is rated at a max amp draw of 60A. I understand that the motor could demand two or three times that in short bursts, but the 4S pack is rated to 200A for short bursts, so it should do just fine. I'm thinking that the 4S packs are going to be a nice compromise between weight and runtime. I ordered a couple and am going to see how they do in my buggy with the 7XL motor that I have coming. As I said, I've been using the maxamps batts for a while and have no reason to doubt their ratings. I do have to tell you that maxamps has been really slow lately. They told me that they've been running behind since Christmas. My last order took them eight days to ship, so if you need them quick, you might want to spend a bit more and order it from someone else. I placed my last order on January 18 and still haven't received them yet. Assuming that you've never had a maxamps pack before, just take note that they come with balancing taps compatible with Hyperion balancers. If you need thunder power compatible taps, you have to pay extra for those. The packs also come wired with 14 gauge wire. Going to 12 gauge is an option at added cost. |
Oh...and how about some pics? I'd like to see your setup.

That's comforting to hear good news on the performance of the maxamps packs. I'd heard some reports of them not being that good.
I do have pics, but the server they're on is being moved. Once that's up they'll be right here: http://gallery.rctrack.info/sleebus_jones/Hyper7/ Sleebus |
Yeah, I've heard some complaints about the maxamps packs too, but I wonder if the complaints are from people who just know somebody who said this or that, or if they are those who actually use them.
My packs have never disappointed me, but I must qualify my post above. Thus far, I've been running them in the 1/10 scale arena. I run a T4 with a Mamba Max 7700 system on 3S lipo. It's a good 60 mph rig and the batts never even get warm. I'm geared 12/87 with speed hawg tires all the way around. How the packs perform in the 1/8 scale arena remains to be seen, by me anyway. |
I too use the maxamps packs. They never break a sweat either. I've heard people checking their batt temps, i have never even felt my to the warm touch. I run 5s on a 10xl and never had probs. Also have 4s on a Neu 1/y and never had an issue as of yet on two runs...lol. I also have a 2s on my compx in my 18T and got about 25min if run time the other day with no probs. I love these packs! Always charge good and stay in balance well.
