pinion gear stuck on motor

I was going to switch out the pinion gear for another one and it is stuck. When I try to pry it with w screw driver, the motor rod just moves with it, I'm afraid to apply to much force.

Any tips?

Thanks

Take the set screw all the way out and put some penetrating oil (not wd40) in there. Maybe heat it up with a heat gun.

yes..heat only the pinion and hopefully it'll expand enough to break free
Good Luck

Mine do that sometimes. I can usually get them off with a small squirt of off brand WD 40 into the pinion gear and gently wiggle the pinion free. Before I put another pinion on, I take a 1/8 drill bit, put it into the pinion, and run it back and forth on the table to help smooth up the inside of the pinion. I also plug the batteries in, take a file, and run the motor shaft very slowly while rubbing the file against it for a few seconds to remove the burrs. The new pinion slides on like a hot knife through butter:003:.
I try not to grind the shaft too often, because I don't want to make it too small or remove the flat spot.

What do you have against WD40? Its known to be excellent in electronics, who knows about an offbrand. WD40 doesnt conduct, and displaces water.

I've done this before, but it might not be the best way. Take the set screw out hook up the batteries and run the car like normal. The pinion usually comes off rather quickly. Obliviously this won't work if your car is disassembled. Use caution with this method though and don't blame me if any thing goes wrong or breaks. :002:

WD40 is fine for certain applications, but it is not a penetrating oil.

Here is another way of popping of stucked pinions: take two flat-head screwdrivers, an place them opposite eachother, with the slightest pressure (used as a lever, power equally divided over both screwdrivers), it will come off.

It usual happends when u put threadlock to screw and its goes between rod and pinion and tightening that.
take that screw out spray a litle bit wd40.
Hold a car and push on trigger carefully, rod will spin inside and you can take pinion off. I do that couple times, works fine.

Not sure what size motor you have, but you could try something like this here
