Grease G2R single speed tranny?
 

I looked around and there seems to be mixed opinions.

With Mike's idler and the Gorillamaxx single speed in a G2R, should I put some grease in the tranny on the gears?

Yes, you should, as with a Steel Idler there will be metal on metal contact. Not doing so will most likely result in premature wear. After I greased mine my transmission was smooth as silk.

The stock tranny can be greased, but its unnecessary. The stock gears are teflon and are self lubricating.

anywhere there is metal to metal contact of moving parts you should lubricate it somehow to prevent wear. The Emaxx transmision with steel idler gear is no exception.

I highly doubt this :032: A solid teflon gear would not stand a chance.
The stock gears are probably nylon or delrin.

Just my feeling.

Always grease the transmission, pack as much in as you can. Stock transmissions benifit from this as well. The reason we started running grease in them was to absorb impact on the gears, and it works quite well. It will also lubricate the gears of course.

Pack in as much as you can? That takes away power though...(more resistance) as it starts acting like a diff.

On a more serious note. One of my projects has been to develope a high-perf lube for the E-Maxx/G-Maxx trans. It was developed in conjunction with a high-performance automotive lubricant manufacturers and input from a second. Thru their "pet project" research division we came up with a unique lube. It is engineered with a super high "cling" capability to prevent being flung off the gears, it's synthetic (cleaner, longer lasting, higher film strength, etc.) it has an EXTREME cushioning capability. This product is ready to ship but I was planning to release it with the HSR slipper kits.

Works much better than grease.

It will techincally take a minute amount of power to spin the greased transmission, true. But a broken transmission is not as fast as one with all gear intact. And we had no less than 3x more power than needed at any given time. We came up with a good combination, no idea what the formula is anymore, it was supplied with all the ultramaxx gears. Synthetics are the way to go for sure.
