Plates for speed controller & receiver

Hi guys any sugestions for plate mounting "how to" .I saw one article on rc magazine and also where to get some brace for the battery holder on the sides,Is carbon fiber be drilled? and cut? Any good websites to buy? thanks a lot in advance Or any aluminum plate that you can buy in LOWES

I usually make mine out of scrap CF, but aluminum is usually the material of choice. Personally, I would simply buy Mikes heatsink mount.

CF can be cut & drilled but it's a bit tough to work with, especially for the CF novice. Aluminum or even G10 Fiberglass would be better choices.

I can machine anything you want if you want to go that route.

Where can carbon fibre sheets or plates be purchased?

jhautz 02.21.2007 10:10 AM

www.graphitelegance.com has the best prices I have found.

Thanks for the info but the correct address is www.graphiteelegance.com

Aluminum works well for me. If you use better-grade 1/16" thick aluminum like 6061-t6, you can bend it (without stress cracks), relatively light, strong, and has the added benefit of acting like a heat sink for certain ESC applications (like the Quark).

From the little work I've done with CF, it is also easy to work with as far as cutting and sanding, but you have to have any bends pre-determined...

Oops... Typo. Sorry.

Glad you found it anyway.

thanks guys any picture for a set up ? I went to lowes and found a lexan plate for sale, I don't know if it will work, thinking about drilling holes and and cutting the lexan to fit the rear part above the shocks.where can i get a stand off ? you guys been great for helping!! THANKS A BUNCH!!

Bomb-Proof 02.21.2007 08:55 PM

yep, that will work. Aluminum is nice because its a added heatsink when done correctly.

where can i get aluminum plates?I looked up in lowes but they don't have it,any pics for set up? thanks again

Tower has some small sheets, but it's not good for bending (has horrible stress cracks). onlinemetals.com has a wide selection, prices are so-so, but the quality is good. I'd go with 6061-T6; it's strong, yet relatively easy to work with.

Even if Lowe's had the stuff you want, it would most likely be a lower grade aluminum.

For most material needs visit:

www.mcmaster.com

They have nearly everything you could possibly want. Aluminum, Ti, Lexan, G10 Epoxyglass, CF, etc.

I have the aluminum and can cut it to whatever size you want and machine heatsinks into it. :028:
