e-maxx with Mamba Max 5700
Hey guys.. I'm stumped..
I have an e-maxx with a mamba 5700 and I guess the term is 'Cogs'.. it just cogs when I give it throttle and doesn't go anywhere.. but when I give it a little push it goes just fine. I am aware this ESC and Motor are probably not enough for this heavy machine but wanted to give it a try. I am running the stock spur with a 14 tooth pinion. I would give my final drive ratio but I can't find the emaxx's 2nd gear transmission ratio anywhere (not final drive ratio). I also have it locked into second gear. I run it with single 7 cell 3300 Nimh's. Would going up to 12 cell packs make a difference ya think? If anyone out there has this similar setup.. let me know how it worked for you. parts in car: Gorillamax chassis (non extended) Gorillamax motor mount Proline 40 series Crime fighters those are the most significant changes.. Thanks in advance |
That motor is too small for the weight, simple as that. I would get an 8XL or 9XL motor, which is quite a bit larger.
And yes, 12 cells will be better, but on a properly sized motor. You could actually try to lock it in first gear instead, and use the smallest pinion/largest spur if you insist on using the 5700 motor, but I don't think you'll be satisfied and you'll have extra heat. Oh, and you can find ratios for many transmissions in the link in my sig. |
Using BrianG's calculator, it seems that you're hitting ~34mph. For the weight of the E-Maxx, the pinion you're running is definitely too large. If I were to even think of running the 5700 in an E-Maxx, I wouldn't gear it for any higher than 25mph, or a 10t pinion.

Yah, that's what I figured.. ah well.. into the on road car it goes.. haha.
I'll go with something different for it. A friend gave it to me so I was trying to find a use for it.. was wondering if anyone has done it at all. However.. will any of the Neu motors work with the mamba esc i.e. has anyone tried it or succeeded at doing it? Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate it alot. M A H A Z A E L |
The Neu motors work, but there are some cogging issues when used with the Mamba Max ESC. When taking off from a stop, it coggs - sometimes quite badly. And when you use the brake and then apply the throttle, the ESC seems to apply reverse for a quick second before going forward. There is supposedly a software update to help with this, but hasn't been released yet.
If you want to use this ESC, I would stick to two-pole motors such as the BK Wanderers (XL size for the emaxx), or one of the Lehner motors. |
Try setting start power to high and motor timing to lowest. Then get some more volts to it!

I don't have personal experience with it. Most of what I know is from conversations with glassdoctor or jhautz (I think he was the one who did a video showing the difference between the Neu and a Lehner on the MM...)
