1:10 or 1:12 scale project wanted...
 

After my dissatisfaction with the 1:16th scale Photon, I figure something a little larger will be nice - I figure 1/16th scale parts are just too darn small. The Photon's parts simply didn't seem beefy or sturdy enough. It was "ok" as a RTR, but not up to my standards. I guess I'm just too picky.

I already have a 1/8 scale buggy, Revo, and Jato. Out of those three, the Jato was the easiest IMO. Parts weren't that expensive either since it was on the smaller side.

So, I'm looking for a smaller 1/10 or 1/12 scale buggy/truggy kit that has the same (or better) build quality than a typical 8th scale buggy. Gotta have a really high quality and durable base to start with. I'd like metal 4-spider gear diffs (typical buggy), hard anodized chassis, bearings (no bushings), suspension adjustments; you know, the usual things that comprise a high quality vehicle. Conversion complexity is not important. I plan to use the MM ESC, 3s-4s lipos, and probably a Lehner 1920/1930 or equivalent.

I was looking hard at the Jammin CRT.5 as it seems well built. However, Tower has it listed for $420! :eek: That's more than the Hyper 8 kit and it's quite a bit smaller! Anyone know of a place to get it at a more reasonable price?

I think the CRT.5 would be your best bet. I can't think of any other decent kits around that size.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for a cheaper price than that.

I found this listing for a much better price, but the pictures looks like it's missing a lot of the CF and aluminum parts - they kinda look like plastic. I wonder if that's a RTR version or something? If so, I'd rather pay the $420 and get all the goodies right away...

Horizon has it for 270. The name of kit is the same, so I suspect it is the same.

Yeah, that solid part for normal electric thingies is the catch.

Well, here is what i found out; Horizon's so called 'pro' version is RTR, so not a pro KIT. the advantages of the pro kit vs the non pro kit;

-threaded aluminum shocks over plastic shocks
-aluminum front/rear braces on the diffs (which basically are simple lasercutted from sheet by the looks of it)
-CF servo mount (will be replaced in the conversion anyway?)
-still no aluminum braces between the rear/front diff
-still no aluminum/cf plate on the servo saver
-7075 lower plate. (this is, with the threaded shocks, the biggest difference)


Still not worth the big pile of extra money IMO.

Seems to me like they are after scoring money on the good name of the 'pro kit' version.

Why not a Hot Bodies Lightning 10, Lightning GT10 or even the Lightning Stadium 10?

I saw a brushless lightning stadium 10 on ebay just a little while ago, and it looked really nice. That would be another option for you.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Serum is right though; I'll probably end up paying up to get the fully metallized version of the Jammin. Either that, or whatever I do get has to have the options to get CF/metal - if I can fab the parts up myself...

I heard they will be about $250 at the LHS. I would definitley go for the CRT.5.. it's going to be a badass little rig. There is even a local guy already promoting a racing class for them here.

I have spent way too much money lately... but I figure someday I will pick up a used one with a blown motor, etc cheap, and drop in a MM system.
