Fans on Esc's
 

Im just wondering how you guys mount fans on your esc's, for those of you that use fans ?. Do you space the fan off the ESC or do you mount it directly on the ESC ?. Whats best ?.

The spacing between the heatsink fins on the Mamba Max make the use of a 3mm screw possible. I have a fan screwed into the heatsink on mine, and it has held its position very well.

If your esc has a heatsink, just ziptie the fan to the esc directly. If not, use an aluminum post and put it near the controller with the fan mounted on that post. The post should be about 2-3 cm long.

Im trying my warrior instead of my mm controller. i can make a mount but if zip tieing it on is just as good ?.

Part of it depends on what type of fan you are trying to mount. I've used a 40mm 12V fan and used alu standoffs to mount the fan over the ESC, and I've also used a 25mm 5V fan I bolted directly to the ESC. The latter one I used a tap to create the (3mm) threads first, then it threads in nicely, works well, and has a compact footprint. Also runs off BEC power, so isn't too harsh on the fan.

For the 12V fan I tapped right off the batt inputs. Severly overvolted, but moves lots of air. :)

IMO it's best to have the fan spaced a bit off the heat sinks... but I gues that depends on how tall the sinks are... tall sinks should let the air flow pretty good.

But there can be a big difference in how much air the fan pushes. If it's too close to something it can's "breath"... when you pull it back a little it blows stronger.

Just check it out... listen and feel the air if possible.. and see if it's moving as much air when mounted fluch to the sinks.

In my CRT, I mounted abig fan above the motor and esc... in ends up spaced at least 1/2" above the esc.

The 3mm screws that I used were of the self tapping variety. They work and hold very well. The fans that I use are 12v fed straight from my 4S lipo pack. They have been working for about a month now. If they burn up any time soon, I'll just make a voltage regulator for them. I've found the 12v fans to be far less expensive than their 5v counter parts.

I think i have got the entire speedo holder/fanholder laying here. Do you want it back?

I would advice to use a little space between the fan and the 9920. (a few mm and you are good to go) like glass says; a fan needs to breath.

Im thinking about using this fan. Im also thinking i can tap into the input power wires on my 9920 for power ?.

Is this specificly for the quark or will it work on a 9920 ?.

It's meant for the 125, since it's flat on one side.

I would go for a fan Mike! it works like a charm, and the heatsink is already there!

The Sunon fan you showed is an OKAY fan.

Do you think im better off using a 5v fan off the reciver, or a 12v fan off the ESC ?.

This place has a good selection of both 5v & 12v fans ?.
