Lehner Basic XL5300 in 1/10 touring car ??

Hello,

I just ordered myself the Lehner Basic XL5300 motor for my 1/10 scale brushless project competition car. I will be running it with the Mamba Max ESC and 2S lipo.

Is there something I should know about this setup prior to running it the first time ? Is this a good setup ? I have absolutely no experience with Lehner motors only with Mamba Max and Novak motors. How will this setup compare to let's say the Mamba Max 7700 and mamba ESC ? I mean speed wise and acceleration. Is the lehner motor going to draw more juice out of the battery or will the runtime be the same ?

Any ideas , questions or remarks.

Thanks guys.

It should be comparable to a 5700 MM, with more torque. The rotor in the lehner is a little bigger in diameter, so more torque. RPM wise it won't be on the 7700 level, but gearing can offset that a little. Should be a little rocket.

welcome to the forums

hi Crazyjr,

thanks for your reply. This place looks like the best brushless forum I have encountered yet.

Can you tell me how I should wire the basic5300 ? I can see from the pictures that the 3 wires coming out of the motor are all black. Wich wire attaches to wich colour on the MM ESC ?

It's going in a all modified TA05 from Tamiya with 48 pitch 78tooth spur , wich pinion should I use ? Now with the MM7700 motor I use a 17T pinion.

Thanks

Doesn't matter which wires go where. Just hook them up, and if it rotates backwards, swap two of the wires. Doesn't matter which ones. That's it.

Believe it or not, a direct conversion says that a 24-25t pinion on a 5300 = a 17t on a 7700.

With such different motors and kvs, it's hard to say how it will compare.

I would start with a 24t and see how it works.

Thanks glassdocter,

I'll try that.

BTW: The only reason why the wires on the MM are different colors is probably for running in brushed mode...

thought it had something to do with the latest fashion..

Could be I suppose...

I do know the MM motor and esc the wires match it goes foreward, I think its easier for newb's that buy the combo

the colour code is there to know the forward rotation without going thrue the trail and error I suppose. It's just helpfull.

Does Mike have the XL5300 in stock ? I can't find it on the website. I ordered the wrong motor :013: yesterday !! I already payed for it , I hope mike reads my email I sent him and send me the XL5300 instead of the Basic 5300.

You really don't need the Basic XL5300 for a touring car. A standard Basic 5300 will put you into the 40-45mph range with ease on 2S Lipo. Besides, I think the extra length of the Basic XL might be too much to fit in the TA05 chassis. I've run a Basic 5300 in my Tamiya EVO III in the past and it was quite a quick little car.

The XL motor is really overkill and will cause you more heat problems that are unnecessary. You won't be dissapointed with the basic seires, whatever size you choose. They are quality built efficient motors.

Thanks guys,

Mike will send me the basic XL5000. It's the same size as a regular 540 can. The basic 5300 has a shorter can so the XL5000 will fit my car just fine.

I'll let you know how it goes. I will run it watercooled with a waterjacket around the motor.

On only 2s lipo I don't think that drastic of measures needs to be taken. The Mamba controller should handle it fine if geared it properly. I said it would cause heat problems before because that is what high KV motors do. However, you aren't putting that many volts through it and the motors are very efficient. Juts make sure to monitor temps while you find the sweet spot to gearing.

Ok , I will keep you informed.
