brushless mbx5t prospec
Hi everybody,
I'm new to the forum, and joined partly because I want to do a brushless conversion on my mbx5t and was hoping some of your experiences would rub off on me in the process... this site has a TON of experience floating around! I just read a couple of threads about the topic, a jammin conversion specifically, and one thing that keeps jumping out at me when I plan my conversion out is the lack of any type of slipper clutch between the powerful motor and the transmission, or center diff in this case... It doesn't seem like it's been a huge problem with the conversions I've read about so far, but it seems like a ton of stress to put on the drive train to me. Does anyone have any thoughts on how a slipper of some sort, or maybe a clutch from a nitro engine could be used on my mbx5t? Also what brushless system would you recommend for this truck? I'm pretty inexperienced with brushless, and it's a little confusing. Any thoughts you guys have would be really appreciated! Thanks! |
You might want to check this thread out.
http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5371 Maybe something like this would work for you. I just pick up a prospec myself but I'm not sure if I want to convert it to BL or not. I might want to save the BL for the CRT. |
Mike is currently working ona combination of a diff and a slipper in one.
That would be a nice option indeed. But a centerdiff without a slipper isn't as bad as a solid shaft. A centerdiff divides the forces. Consider this; every solid centershaft model that uses a nitro engine uses a slipper. and every centerdiff vehicle doesn't. |
just drop in a kyosho or hotbodies diff with plastic 46t spur and you are good to go till the slipperdiff is here, use the hotbodies diff mount, or a machined one from mike ( rc-monster owner)

I noticed that the dirve ratio in the slipperential is quite high and it takes a very big pinion to reach a certain desired speed. The slipperential is specifically made for racing, I guess, not for speed.
|
you can get a 34t spur for it. don't know what else you are looking for?
|
I'm actually referring to my SuperMaxx. To make it go 60mph( that's the highest speed I want to reach) I need to use a 25T pinion with the 36T spur for the slipperential. I thought about altering the ratio between the diff and the topshaft of the slipperential to make it near 1.8:1 instead of the 2.2:1 drive ratio.

mbx5t brushless
Thanks 4x4 nut, that project is insane!
That's exactly what I would like to do, but I'll have to look at the slipper part of the project again because I don't totally follow what he's doing there to be completely honest... Serum, that's a good point, too. And I'll have to look into that hot bodies option you mentioned jumper, is that specifically for the mbx5t? Although I've had r/c cars for about 15 years and everything from a Kyosho Javelin and Vanning to a T-Maxx, E-Maxx, and TRC-Pro 10 (old school on road pan car) etc., I'm really new to the whole brushless deal. I just got this mbx5t and I think it would be feakin' awesome as an electric! If Mike does make some parts to convert these trucks to brushless I'll definitely be waiting to buy them like a kid at christmas... that mock up of the brushless motor mount with cooling fins is off the hook! What brushless system do you guys recommend for a 5t prospec? I would like it to be competitive with nitro's in a race, but also have a decent run time. Right now I don't have any lipo batteries, what do you guys recommend? And will a mrp super-brain 977 be a good charger for lipo's? Sorry for all the questions, but you guys are really helping me a lot figure out what I need for this project! Thanks alot! josh |
well, if you want slipper-diff you need to use diff mounts like hotbodies,
'cause that diff is a hotbodies. mugens diffs are smaller in lenght. but they use offset mounts so the hotbodies mount fits right in the original holes of the chassis. |
The Javelin is one of the coolest r/c cars ever made imo.... my avatar is just a Javelin wannabe , lol....

The MBX5-T is decent, and you need a decent setup for this, dude.
I believe you're gonna race? 4s TrakPower lipos with a 1950/7 and a Mamba Max. |
