A good ESC fan
 

Anyone know of a good ESC fan for a mamba maxx esc?

If this has been asked.. forgive my laziness for not searching the forums.

There is a guy on ebay running an ebay store called robobugs (IIRC). He has 12v fans that fit perfectly onto the MM controller with the use of 3mm self threading screws. They are the 1X1" models. I've been running these directly from my 4S lipo packs and they have held up well. Besides, they're only like $3 each. I usually order 3 or 4 at a time to save on shipping. These little things move some air too.

If you are looking for 5v fans, then this place has them pretty cheap.

While we are on the subject I wish there were some tougher fans to choose from. I have been using some 40mm 12v fans on my Quark heat sink and the fan internals keep coming out and then they get ripped off their wires. Leaving the bare wires to do as they please. Not cool. I think I may try to CA glue the fan's internals into their case.

Are there any tougher fans out there?

You gotta admit, these fans are subjected to some pretty harsh environments and physical abuse, especially considering they are meant to be used in much tamer installations. It sounds like glueing the internals is a good idea. Maybe use some type of rubber grommets between the screws and the fan for some type of cushion?

As far as the bare wires issue goes; I wouldn't be too concerned. Even if those thin wires did short out, they would simply vaporize since they can't handle heavy currents - at least not enough to damage the battery. They would just act like a fuse. :) Although, for safety, you could make a little fuse holder by using a couple of these and then insert a blade-type fuse into them.

Cool. Thanks guys. I'll give them a try and see what happens. I definatley want to cool things off a bit more for some longer run times.
