What would YOU do with a Hacker C40-12L?

Hi all

I have a Hacker C40-12L motor in a heli of mine, but it was a bad choice of motor for the model and I'm at a loss of what to do with it. I'd probably have to sell it for 25% of its original cost in order to compete with existing motors, so I'd rather put it to use than try sell it off.

Well it's a great motor for those that don't know the Hacker C40 series. Heatsinked, sealed, 2500 kv, and probably good for 500-700 watts. I'd like to run it on 4 or 5 cells in a car of some sort. I mostly like buggies, but I think this motor would be overkill for a 2wd 1:10 buggy. Maybe a 4wd 1:10 buggy, but I don't know of any 4wd 1:10 buggies?

What would you do with it? Let me know! :)

team losi has the xxx-4 g+ and mrc academy has there sb series of buggies, these buggies are 4wd electric buggies.

Would be a nice motor for a 1/10 on 4s lipo.... :027:

Yokomo probably makes the best, but I would go with MRC's new buggy.

These are some really nice buggies. I am a sucker for belt drives. :004:

Squee, which one is MRC's new buggy? They all look good. :D

I really like the Yoki MR-4BXF so far.

Does anyone know what gear ratios these buggies use on their front and rear diffs?

jollyjumper 04.11.2007 05:00 PM

ratio is around 2/1~2.5/1,
the bx is 2.2/1 i think, uses a 84T spur 48pitch.
most of the 4wd's are rather tight on space for electronics.
your motor might not even fit if its more then 36mm.
i think it wouldnt work in my 4x4.
also, an sb v2 is a shafty.
real sweet but also shaft drive is the predator x11.

Crt .5!

Aragon 04.11.2007 05:11 PM

Thanks. I just found the gear ratios of the 4BX too and it's the same as you say.

Hacker C40-12L is 36mm diameter. It is quite long though at 63mm, but I think I can shoehorn it in just.

Well I've been doing some voltage calculations. Looks like 6S would be better given 10.26:1 final ratio and 2.2" wheels. That would give about 34 MPH. Is that a sane speed for a buggy like this?

It just so happens I have two 3S 2600 packs that should fit the 4BX battery positions. :)

Convert a HB Lightning Stadium 10. Sower loved his and that would be a killer motor on 4s.

To much power for the belt driven standard electic 1/10 stuff IMO. Stick to somethjing shaft drive with some decent diffs. The electric style ball diffs arent gonna last long either with that kind of power.

Or a Lightning GT10, HPI MT2 18SS or HPI MT2 18SS+

jhautz 04.11.2007 05:31 PM

GT-10 would be cool!!! Havent seen one of those done yet!!

Sylvester 04.11.2007 05:43 PM

I am thinking of getting a Jconcepts BJ4, looks like a nice 4wd buggy.

Hrm, really? :( That's really disheartening. I love belt drives...

I want to avoid a conversion though. Already got a 1:8 conversion in the pipeline and it's enough of a pain in the butt waiting for components. :)

Will look out for shaft driven kits. The JB4 looks pretty neat, Sylvester. Just looked at the Exploded View of it - looks like it uses Team Associated components... Are the two companies related?
