Stock revo conversion;
Well.. After some inspiring days in Switzerland last year, i kind of fell in love with Dafni's revo's.. his basher-bitch, as he calls it, seems to be a pretty tough and ever going concept. (congrats on her Daf.. :) )
Made me want to make a revo that could hold almost all the available lipo-packs, and up to 16nimh cells (8 on each side). In order to make this happen, the mounting flaps for the front servo where in the way.. Well; this was the biggest problem I came across. nothing big though. More on this later, for now some pics about the ongoing process... The frame without the flaps, left one small ear on it, for the radiobox. Since the frame is rather 3D, it's fair easy to work away all the wiring IMO.. Small update;
Here is how the rear of the batterieholders are supported; It also helps keeping the servohorn from bending, since it sits at the bottom of the truck. <a href="http://picasaweb.google.nl/buikpijn/StockRevoConversion/photo#5053369083097666226"><img src="http://lh4.google.nl/image/buikpijn/RiEsaDz6UrI/AAAAAAAAAwk/tS2sRkGj6J0/s800/CIMG5378.JPG" /></a> The bulks needed a bit of work; Initially these holes are used for the nitro enginemount. they come out under an angle. Serum, looks great! I guess you plan on doing something like on the Dark Impacts where the servo is at the back and a very long aluminum rod runs from the front to back for the steering link?

the plan was, indeed, to use a long rod. I've got this 3mm titanium rod i can use as a turnbuckle. only need to make some thread on it, and it's good to go. Just finished hooking up the batterieholders, still having doubts on how to mount the motor. (using a stock e-maxx transmission) My initial idea was to make a motorplate that enables the motor to sit on the opposite direction of the transmission. kind of like the original gmaxx mount, only fixed to the gearbox. (this way i could mount the motor lower) It would use spacers to mount the motor onto another plate. Good thing is i've got some driveshafts wandering around that are a perfect drop in for front and rear.. So basically, this project comes together pretty easy! |
Serum, there was another member around here that did the same thing, I just can't remember his name. He had a Ofna Hyper 7 PBS buggy with a Maxximum and 18.97, and a Revo conversion that he had the same setup in, but sold the Revo for the buggy and then sold the buggy.

Looks nice so far Serum! I like using the stock chassis too since it is more custom. Can't wait to see the finished product! Aren't you done yet? ;)

Looks great!! If I was to convert the revo, I would also use the stock chassis... you just ahve so many mroe options in where everythign mounts and how.

That's a nice way to do it! Will you be running a center diff, or will you go with a "slipperential" type of thing like I have in my Revo?

I've got some parts to make a slipperential like diff, but i do have got the right shafts at this point to use the maxx tranny.. And i have got a maxx tranny, with strobe.. arh, a centerdiff would be my favorite. :) let's see if i know a person that can make me some shafts.. (wink)
