Baja 5b Racing Vids

Check this out,http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xrd...arema-victoire,looks like awesome fun.

There's also video of the MCD 4wd buggies,i've been wanting to see one of those run,the Baja looks miles better though.

i saw a 5b for the first time at my LHS a few weeks ago... i actually had dreams about it, i wanted it so bad! big, and super tough! then i started to think about the cost of a brushless system to push that thing around, and had second thoughts...

did you see the video of HPI running the 5b across 100 miles in baja country? it can really take a beating!

edit: here it is.

I want one so bad even if i leave it two stroke, supposed to be fast out of the box

ClodMaxx 04.18.2007 11:42 PM

yeah - i think i read somewhere that it does mid-50's in stock form. it's actually not a bad price, either - less than 1k, and a radio is even included.

Very sweet video's... both of them.

I can reassure you guys that things things are absolutely insanely fun. I saw one run at the sand dunes near me and it was jumping big and flipping and nothing broke. It is a really strong, beefed up truck. It actually only goes about 40mph, but ti is plenty fast and will be a ton of fun. The guy who had it, actually also had a g2r and 2 brushless stadium trucks, lol. I think a xxx-t and t4 if I'm not mistaken...

I also heard word that HPI id working on a 4wd version... :027:

ClodMaxx 04.18.2007 11:55 PM

hooooollleeeeee... if they come out with a 4wd version, i'll sell my... my... i don't know! something! i wouldn't be able to help it. the money would just fly out of my wallet, lol.

edit: i'm thinking one of these could really give something that size a push!

I would leave it 2-stroke in all honesty though(did i just say that:032: ).it seems like the most practical power source for them to me and still plenty fast, the tuned up engines aren't to be sniffed at.you can run those things all day with no worries, just fuel it and go,it's just like your lawn mower.Plus the noise doesn't offend my ears like nitro does, and they don't have the tuning and maintenance hassles.

jnev 04.19.2007 12:34 AM

It is pretty much the easiest form of rc's. The only thing to do is pour the gas in. Ans then just 1 tank will give you about 40 minutes of run times. How awesome is that... :027:

BP-Revo 04.19.2007 01:12 AM

Thats awesome!

BlackedOutREVO 04.19.2007 02:09 AM

i aggree if theres a 4wd version im on that FAST!!!! and id also leave it nitro, and then build nuther truck for the cost of the bl system to put in it lol

BoysToys 04.19.2007 03:14 AM

I drool over the 5b every time I go to my LHS. :004: This 5B Dumont Dunes Video and This Jump really get my blood pumping!

Stock out of the box they run mid to upper 30's. If you remove the stinger off the muffler it will do about 40. If you remove the guts from the stock muffler with the stinger removed it will run low to mid 40's. The kits have everything needed except radio batteries and gas. You get some spare parts extra diff oil, shock oil and grease along with 2 stroke mixing oil (enough for about .6-.7 gal.).

They are dogs in stock form. Sluggish off the line and lacking acceleration in general - especially compared to brushless beasts most guys around here run.
Personally, I think the baja would be quite an easy brushless conversion - and wouldn't require anything special in the way of a system. In fact, this vehicle would likely lose a couple pounds when making the conversion, and would draw less current than some of the 13 pound maxxes around here(the motor, pipe and fuel tank on these things are big and heavy). 6s Lipo with an xl or so motor and the baja should be under 15 pounds with all kinds of power. :)

Dafni 04.19.2007 09:22 AM

I'm with you there, Mike. An XL could pull the "empty" buggy around no problem.

And yeah, the gas version really is not quick at all. Especially when you're used to BL.

AAngel 04.19.2007 09:43 AM

We had a 5b for a while. It was fun, but you really need wide open spaces and you'd be surprised at how easy it was to get stuck. I suppose that we were doing things that it wasn't designed to do. As far as the weight goes, it was also surprisingly light, once the engine was removed. I just never really thought that an XL would be enough to push that thing around.

Mike, what are you thinking in an XL? Perhaps a sub 1000kv motor? I'm starting to get bored with what I have and want to build something new. I was going to do a Serpent, but don't know what I'd do with it once it's done.
