Race Run Times?
 

Ok, who here is able to run their brushless truggy for the full 30 minutes in a race? I would really like to start racing this thing and need to know what changes to make in the batteries. Right now I'm running a 4s 4350mah Hyperion and that doesn't cut it. Let me know what you guys are running. Thanks!

How long does it run with those 4350's? You can get a ballpark figure by figuring your average amperage draw with those cells, then using that value to figure out what Ah you'll need to get 30 minutes.

What setup are you running? The problem I was having was the Feigao motors I was using would heat up too much. If you're running a sane setup, an 8Ah pack should do you. GD is running a 12Ah setup and he's having no troubles.

Thanks guys. I haven't run a full charge out yet. I'm going to the track tomorrow to run it until it's dead. Then I'll let you guys know what it is. By the way, I'm running a Lehner 1940/10 hi-amp, MM ESC, 13t/44t gearing, and the Hyperion 4350 4s battery. I also have a 8cfm fan on the motor/ESC. Today I ran it pretty hard for 15 minutes and the motor got up to 130. I was happy with that. Tomorrow will be the real test though.

Well, that Lehner is going to run lots cooler than my Feigao and the 10T should stretch the runtime as much as possible. It sounds like your gearing is pretty conservative too.

I'll guess your current setup is good for 20-24 minutes. My buggy seems to need about 5500mah for a 30 min race under ideal conditions, and a bit more depending on the track and my driving habits. I would be confident with anything 6000mah+

No doubt that 8000mah is enough even for a hard drivng style with your setup.

I'm intersted to see what you find for runtime for your setup today...

Cool, well I'll find out soon enough I guess. I'm wondering if the new 30C batteries from Flightpower will improve that run time too. They'll be out late May from Tower and seem to be priced pretty nicely.

Ok guys, I went out and tested it today. I had a full charge on my batteries and it took just under 20 minutes before I was dead. I was pretty much racing all out too. I'm pretty happy about it, but I need to have an alternative to get me to 30 minutes. I would like to find something that's about the same size, but just a little taller. This Hyperion is about 6.3" long, and 1.8" wide. Any ideas?

Have you checked out the 6Ah packs at maxamps?

I have had experience with both orion 4800s, & maxamps 8000s
The orions have noticeably more throttle response and wide open throttle power. they were also much lighter very evident when jumping. The wires coming out of the top of the case are also very nice. 15-20 minutes. Never had to be balanced (10lb-8xl-MM)

The maxamps 8000s are heavy and didnt have quite as much power as the orions. But they have 25-30 minutes of drive time. The side positioned wires can be a pain. I balance them about every other charge.

Yeah, I've looked at the Maxamps 6000 and the 6300, but from what I understand they just don't perform like the Enerland cells. I would really like a nice Enerland cell with 5500 to 6000 mah.

do you have room for a 2p configuration?
you could run 3700 4s/2p. or 5s/2p or 6s/2p, dont know how many cells you run.

i do mean 2p of 3700 cells for 7400mah.

Yeah, I have room actually. My only real limitation is trying to balance weight. Well, that and the fact that I'm running the MM esc so I'm stuck on 4s packs. Which actually works really well right now. I have thought about going with two 4s packs at around 3000 each. The ones I've found are too short and too tall though. I would really like them to have the same footprint as my 4350 for minimal adjustment.

You could also try the 3200 or 3300 cells in a 2P configuration.

Which manufacturer are you thinking of?
