8xl amp draw
can someone tell me the amp draw on the 8xl please.

Under what circumstances? What's your battery config? What's your vehicle?
I can say off the bat that the 8XL runs very well in an 1/8 scale buggy or truck on 4S lipo. If you have at least decent batteries, it won't be a problem. |
Its in an e-revo with single speed. Looking for my average amp draw so I can make a lipo buying decision from maxamps. Looking to pull 45 min runtimes.
|
Is that in a 4S configuration? For 45 minutes, I'm thinking that you'll need the 12Ah pack.
|
On second thought, I don't know that an 8XL will run that long without over heating anyway.

when I originally got the motor I stated i needed this runtime and everyone suggested this motor lol....
|
Oh, from an amp draw standpoint, it'll do it. It's a good motor for a truck, I run one in mine. My battery packs never get more than warm, but depending on the temps outside and the way I run it, the motor can get smokin hot. Really, I think that any of the Feigaos will get hot if you run it enough. They just aren't that efficient.

well whats an average amp draw I can expect? lol.
|
There have been graphs posted. IIRC, it's around 30A average draw. That's just from memory and could be completely off. Do a search.

Average amp draw will be anywhere from 15-30amps, depending on terrain, driving style, vehicle weight, tires, drivetrain drag, etc. In my Revo I get about 15mins. from 4600mah, so that means that the average amp draw is 18.4amps (60mins/15mins x 4.6Ah). This setup can easily pull 120amps in spikes, though, so buying a battery based on the amp draw would be useless (average amp draw is less than 1/10th of what the maximum draw is).
|
As MM said, it depends on what drving you are doing. I have a 4S 15C 6400 mah pack from truerc in a ERevo w/ 8Xl and SS and I get anywhere from ~25 min to 1 hr on it. Lots of speed runs I get lower, but if I'm more offroad bashing, jumping, doing rough terrain, hill climbing, ie stuff not @ WOT the truck just keeps on going.
The thing that hurts is that partial throttle heats it up the most it seems. After 1 hr the motor was ~175F. |

Where did you pull that from? |
This will be on race tracks only nothing else. Buying a battery based on average amp draw is the only way to estimate run time. which is why I ask this statement. However never running it, I don't want to make the wrong purchase decision. the pack needs to not only supply enough amps for the "spikes" but also needs to have enough capacity to deliver the amount of run time requested.

From here 40-60 amps ratings for battery selection looks reasonable if you add safety factor. |
