3 Attachment(s)
Hi all,
i got this far so please do not thrash me i am ready to chuck this thing in the drink ! i completed this thing last night and i can say potiental is there however i can't find any info on esc temps pinion sugestions cause this could be wrong ! and i need to know where do i hookup the fan ? i did this way to fast ! someone point me to the thread where they even talk about the contact guy over at castle cause i even have software qeustions like (where's the logger that stores the data from your run ?) this thing cuts off i think cause of the esc overheats happend twice won't happen again ! Thanks in advance ! M MAX 5700kv 2 Duratrax 3800 6cells (lipo coming if i can iron things out) All DEANS Stock E-MAXX Tranny Man. 2SPD running 66spur & 17 Pinion as far as motor what would be a better choice that will work with my esc ? and where do the fan wires go ? |
OK, first please forgive me if I lack some tact, but I'll get right to the point.
I don't have an aftershock, but I do have a Muggy and these trucks are huge and heavy. First, your motor is all wrong. 5700kv is way to high for this application and the motor itself is too small for the job. The esc is marginal, in my opinion. The reason it keeps shutting down is because the motor is pulling too many amps trying to move that truck and heating up the controller. A fan won't help your situation, but FYI, you can run a 5v fan from the aux port on your receiver or a 12v fan straight from your battery pack. For a truck that size running the MM esc and 12 cells, I'd go with an 8XL motor, or a 9XL. I think the 9XL would be better. In any case, I wouldn't expect any great speed. 35mph would be pushing it. Of course, this is all assuming that your truck weighs about as much as mine. Mine goes over 12lbs. Many have done trucks with the MM esc, but none that I have seen weigh as much as mine does and I have learned that running the MM in such an application is really pushing the esc. The system (esc/motor combo) is meant for 1/10 scale applications and really won't do well in your aftershock. If I were you and you wanted to do it right, I'd go with either a Compro 16016 or Quark Monster Pro controller and a 9XL motor to start with. I'd also go to 5S lipo to keep the current draw down with the 9XL. If you stick with 4S lipo, I'd go to the 8XL. If you go with standard monster truck tires, it will also relieve the esc of some stress. I'm currently running my Muggy on 4S with the MM speed controller with 40 series masher tires; and I'm very unsatisfied with the truck. I'm running 10/46 gearing, but I have a center diff instead of a tranny. I can't run any more gear because my esc overheats. If all you want to do is crawl around over rocks and do some hill climbing and speed is not important, then the MM on 4S with the 9XL will do you nicely. If you want any kind of speed, go with a better controller, 5S and the 9XL. Wish I had something more postive to say about your current setup. |
no that's cool, thats what i was looking for no one around my area knows about this stuff, this truck runs like a rape ape but shuts down after 2 or so mins of action. 9XL what company is that and do they also sell esc to match

Video of of same vehicle with 5S 6000mah pack I will admit the 5S is pushing the limits of the ESC and I have likely reduced the life of the poor thing by pushing it that hard. It just has to last me until the Mamba Monster Max or Tekin R1MT comes out!:027: ASYSTEMERROR - You should be okay with upgrading your motor and batteries. If you intend to stay with the Mamba Max I would invest in a BEC or use the Losi's Rx pack and disable the MM's internal bec. |
The XL motors that I am speaking of are made by Feigao and are just good motors for the money. The Neu and Lehner motors are much better and will run significantly cooler because they are much more efficient. Just try to kept your overall rpms under 35,000 (I try to stay closer to 30,000) with whatever battery configuration you decide to run and you should be OK.
I stick by what I said about the MM. I'm running them in big trucks too, and just because they work, doesn't mean that they are the best thing to use. I have five Mamba Max escs, and their compatibility with 1/8 scale applications have ranged from doing OK to not being able to hang. Of the ones that I have, a couple do OK on 5S, most do OK on 4S and 1 doesn't do well with 4S in a truck. What your MM will actually be capable of won't be evident until you try it. It's really a matter of how much money it is that you want to spend. The Neu 1515/1Y goes for almost $300, whereas the Feigaos go for $70-$80. The mamba max can be had for around $100 or so and won't hurt as bad when (and I do mean when) you blow it up. The Compro and Quark are over $250. Like I said, it's a matter of willingness to spend. If you want to stay on a tight budget, I'd just run the MM with an 8 or 9XL on 4S lipo. If money is no object, I'd go for a 1515/2.5D with a Quark on 5S, or the 1Y for 4S. |

anybody have pix of aftershock or muggy converted?
|
I think that this was my Muggy
http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSC02499.jpg In the long run, the Fiegao got too hot and the MM proved to be an insufficient controller for the heavy truck. |
so you cant use it with a muggy or lst2, after shock?
|
You can use Feigao motor, they will just heat up very fast and a lot. This is why people always try to get the high end motors like a Neu or Lehner. You can look at those motors here: http://www.rc-monster.com/brushlessmotors.php
