Drill and tap size
What size drill and tap do I use for 3mm machine screws (the screws used throughout the E-Maxx)? I need to tap some holes in an FLM chassis.
|
2.5 mm is the standard for M3. if the material is tough, i take a 2.6 drill.
and you need an M3 tap with a .5mm pitch. |
i use a #39 drill bit and it works great... good luck
|
So I need a 2.5 mm (or #39) drill bit, and a 3mm .5 tap. Thanks guys. :dft003:

Yeah, anytime..
Walter.. You are not complaining about your gasprices, right?! you want to pay what we are paying here? :p |
Oh, and I'd suggest some sort of lubricant, like tap magic, especially if you're tapping into something kind of hard, like 7075 aluminum.

BTW - we - (Mike and I) use boeing lube - its a dry lubricant that works wonders also - and its dry so its not such a pain to get the chips out of the slots on the tap.. |
about 8 bucks per gallon to make you even feel better....
(didn't knew you needed this to feel any better walter?) |
