CRT.5 conversion
 

I got my CRT.5 kit in. Keep debating just buying the nitro motor or stick with my B/L plans...... I got it to do a B/L conversion. I have looked around at systems. I am coming from 1/18th B/L stuff so the 1/10th scale is new to me. The max RPM's on the bigger motors and all are greek to me.

I am asking for motor suggestions. I want good good power for racing 1/8th buggies on a club level. Yet wouldn't mind putting in a high cell count lipo for speed runs.(local 3.3 jato needs tamed) I was thinking maybe mamba 7700 on a 2s then for speed do a 3s. Is this to much rpm for the 7700 to run on 3s. Will the 7700 have the tq i want on a 2s?

I am open to suggestions on power plants. I really like the quark in my 1/18th so that is a consideration. I am budget minded as well. So power for the money is very important but I do not want to sacrifice reliability. I know you can get a cheap parts and have to buy them again or get good stuff first. I like to do things once soooo.

well a 7700kv is only supposed to take a 2 cell

the fastest motor is the 5700 kv, because of torque, and with tore and high cell count u can gear it crazy.... i sujest the 5700, or the 4600 kv if ur going to race u want it to be tame so u can stay on the track

Thanks for the input. I was thinking that spinning the 7700 on 3s might kill it. Do the 5700's live on 3s? I would only be running a few passes and nothing constant when on the 3s most all useage will be on a 2s actually not planning to buy the 3s right away. For I might be plenty happy with the 2s.

the 5700kv will do fine on a 3 cell, u might want a ubec, but i will leave that to someone else here, so idk there, but i know ppl run the motor on 3 cell no probs, just the speedo because there using the internal bec, so it might heat up

i think u will be more then happy with a 2 cell, the truck is small, i think its ibjammin got some crazy speeds on 2 cell, i THINK

The 5700kv Mamba is a rocket on 3s in the CRT.5 and on 2s it mellows it out to run on dirt the 7700 motor may be to much? I went with a Maxamps 3s 4000mah pack and would recomend the 5000mah pack the 4000 pack gets a little warm and has melted the shrinkwrap on the end of the pack.:( TBH stick with the Mamba Max ESC it's more user frendly temps have been fine in the motor and ESC around 150deg with 15/46 gears. around 60000rpm is max for the Mamba Max motors.

Yes! My rule of thumb is to run a switching BEC at ANYTHING over 2s or 6 cells. However, if you only run 2s or 6 cells, it's usually better to run a linear BEC because of the usually higher drop-out voltage of a switching BEC.

Thanks a bunch. I am leaning towards the Mamba Max with a 5700. Start with the 2s.

Def look into the 5000mah pack as well. Are the maxamps packs 20c continuous?

UBEC I am new to this so not sure exactly what it is. I am assuming it regualtes voltage. I will do some research on this. If nayone can sum it up in a short I would def appreciate it.

yes it regulates the voltage going to the servos, so when u do that u disable the one on the speedo ( aka the red or middle wire)

I dont think you really need a UBEC with 3s or under I stole the Mamba ESC from my 4s CRT coversion so it was already wired into the ESC but one advantage of the UBEC is it puts out 6v vers the ESC output of around 5v with the larger 1/8th scale conversions and high torque servo's sure the UBEC is needed over 2s with the crt.5 though you are only running a mini servo and ESC. :)

While you are waiting for the spur and motor mount pull your plastic suspension part's and bring a pot of water to a boil turn the flame off and drop your parts in for about 2-3 minutes to soften the plastic up I have been breaking the rear hubs and ballends the plastic is very brittle soaking them in hot water softens up the plastic and lets them flex a little more instead of breaking. This was the fix on the full size CRT when it came out the rear hubs and wing mounts would break in a hard impact. :)

I think you have gotten everything settled for the most part. I actually would look into the 4600 on 3s. It should be the most efficient and give you the longest run times, and well as give you decent speed. PM me if you are interested in one.

Nicad- I have a CRT.5 and a RCmonster mount sitting right here. If its in stock...grab it! Its a sweet job on the milling and price. You cannot go wrong with someone doing a mount for you...unless you have the equipment and the time!

FYI, I tested temps of the BEC in the MM on 2s, 3s, and 4s with a very conservative 250mA (0.25A) load, and it got VERY hot VERY quickly on 3s. I would recommend a UBEC on anything over 2s. Here is the post...
