Storing your lipo's
I was wondering how other members store there lipos. I bought this case at harborfrieght. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=39196 . It has plenty of room for both my 2s2p 8000 lipo's , charger & the balancer, i also have plenty of room to ad more stuff latter. I simply laid my lipos in there & cut the foam around them & the other stuff. There is foam on all four sides of everything in the case, so nothing slides around at all & they are protected very well in my opinion. Tell me what you think & how you store yours.
Rene do you mean ceramic blocks or tile, like the stuff used in a kiln for making pottery ?. |
Nice case, not a bad price. I have mine in a Plano plastic case with foam surrounding them. I wouldn't mind a little more "fireproof" case for lipos though.

I figured this would be good protection. My understanding is that lipo's are most dangerest while charging & shortly after use or a severe crash. If im wrong will somebody please correct me ?. |
That sounds about right. Although, I store mine in the Liposack just in case something bad happens.

Makes sense. As long as you can contain the damage and it is on a non-flammable surface, you should be fine.

Here is the video, clink on the link its the 3rd one down. http://www.rcstuff.us/battery/lipo/lipo_video.html |
Hmm, I don't know what to think about that vid. The pack smoked, but never truly flamed. I kinda doubt the sock stopped it from flaming, so I'd like to see how effective it is against a true flaming battery.
BTW: do you know what li-ion blew in the bottom vid? The vid quality is so poor, I couldn't tell. |

No sir i dont. The maker of the lipo sack sent me a link to the rc groups site were i found a link to these video's. |
Hmmm. I hope it's not an emoli pack, since that is what I run in the Jato. :)

There is another pic on the lipo in the nomex sock but i cant find it. I found these using google. http://shop.vendio.com/crowderscusto.../?s=1179309602 |
LOL, they really are socks! Just make sure you don't wear them first. It would be bad to have a pretty R/C that smelled like sweaty feet! :)

Is there anything else you need to do beside storing them in a safe place?
My packs are 70-80% charged. I only charged them once eversince I bought them( 7 months ago) and used them a bit in my supermaxx. Will that cause them any harm? |
Most recommend storing them long-term at about 3.8v/cell, which is what they usually arrive at.
