1/5 Firehammer MT.

Hey guys, I ordered A Duratrax Firehammer MT this past Friday, it should be here in 2 Days. I was planning using Castle Creations HV110 ESC and power it on 12S. For motor, Should I use a 3040-14 or 3060-10 or a 3080? :):004: I know finedesign has one of these 1/5 for sale, but does anyone or have anyone seen a brushless 1/5 scale run before. If you have a video of it, hook me up.

For batteries, I was thinking of using 2 6S 5000Mah Packs.
Any sugguestions would be excellent. Video of a 1/5 Scale BL moving at Lightning speeds... Priceless!!!

2wd and too much torque don't go hand in hand!

I would go for a 2250, you want it to be as light as possible with only two wheels hooked up to the ground..

I looked into the 1/5th monsters; the only ones that appealed me where the 4wd versions.

If you perse want to go lehner 30 size route, get the 3040. but IMO a 2240/2250 would be more than enough power/torque the vehicle can put to the ground.

Lightweight is the key.

Thanks for the advice.. Does the Duratrax firehammer MT use the same parts as the FG Marder?.. maybe I can get a 4WD conversion for it, if it's compatible...
I just have a bad tendency to get Fat on my RCs.

I've got no idea if the parts are exchangeable.?

I saw the DTX firehammer from FD run at the WRAM show. IIRC, it had a 3080 running on 5s. I was cool, not that much power though, it would have been better with 10s. I'd say that my revo with a 1515 1y on 4s was faster accelerating and in top speed than the firehammer on 5s, it was hard to tell though, it ran on slippery floors.

Bye:018:

You know you can't compare 1/8th with 1/5th, right?

any progress?

I know that this is sacrilege, but I thought hard about doing a 1/5 scale electric, but the gas versions are pretty bad a$$. I went to electric with the 1/8 scale off road, because the nitros can't compete, it's cleaner, and easier.

The 1/5 scale gas cars are a different story though. You can get a nice two stroke engine for far less than the cost of an appropriate electric motor, esc, and the battery packs. The gas engine runs for a long time on a tank of gas and tuning them is easy and isn't a constant thing.

Besides, as Serum said, the torque of electric is going to be difficult to harness with a two wheel drive 1/5 scale. When we were messing with my buddy's Baja, we just added an after market pipe and tuned for it and getting it to hook up on anything loose was an exercise in futility. I couldn't have imagined trying to control an electric version. Of course, you could go with a mild electric setup, but then what's the point?

Just playing devil's advocate here guys.

No Progress yet..... I'm actually starting to like the Petrol version.... I was actually pissed off that it took so long to waste the tank of fuel.. :) I have 2 FireHammers now.. a buggy and a MT.. but I might try the brushless eventually.. :)

aqwut 05.29.2007 02:35 PM

I wonder if a Feigao 12XL on 8S power this thing?.... Have anyone tried this before... Because If I could sell the motor, and get enough money for the ESC and motor, it would do it to the FireHammer Buggy...

Superemaxx89 05.30.2007 02:54 AM

I just want to point out that www.largescalerc.com has a large selection of 4WD 1/4-1/5 monster trucks and such.

I would also like to comment on AAngels point. I absolutely agree with the gas (not nitro) engine concept. One must eventually ask, "Where does a model car end, and real cars begin? At what scale does the grudge on electric power catch up? 1:6? 1:4? 1:2? 1:1?" We all know that electric powered real cars are not...desirable. And at some point in size (I hate to admit it), Gas will overcome Brushless, in every way. I guess we start to see it in the 1/5's. I knew brushless was too good to be true!

aqwut 05.30.2007 07:04 AM

guess it's true.. but I use to have a dual brushless that weighed close to 23Lbs.. I'm pretty sure brushless still rocks at 1/5th scale.. my 1/8 GST weights over 18.5Lbs.. But I really do like the Gasoline version RCs.. it's just so cheap to play with.. but brushless always surprise people :). I love brushless..
