Emaxx Dual brushless with smaller motors

Can anyone offer experience or suggestions for setting up an emaxx with dual brushless, but with smaller motors, I don't want 1 large engine.

Well, depends alot on your budget, intended operating voltage& truck weight.
But.... I have heard of alot of people using dual MambaMax motors and escs- I would suggest either 4600kv or 5700kv depending on how fast you want to go. Or you can try a couple of Lehner basic 4200kv with appropriate escs- the motors can handle up to 10 sub-c cells which is 12v. Take a look at the Candyman's dual BL Juggernaut2:-

Should give you some good ideas. But remember, the heavier the truck, the more it will strain smaller motors & the more you will need to gear down.

Thanks, I like that setup.

This is my first electric so I don't know what is considered heavy. Should be in the 8-10lb range

HCR chassis and short arms
UE vbs, ti cvds, knuckles, braces, slipper
RCM single speed FLM half tranny
Powerstrokes

I guess I'm limited to the 6 cell trays and was thinking of dual $$ batteries of some light/compact type lipo or lithium.

Can you give me the reason why you don't want 1 large motor?

welcome back DUH.. :p Thanks for the shocktowers.

8-10lbs is fairly light, given the stock emaxx is 9lbs I think. Batteries wise I would go with the A123 lithium jobbies, a 3s2p setup would be ideal I reckon, probably with the MM 5700kv motors.

Symetry....

Its all about personal taste I guess.....:024:

Not a good one, I WAS going to go with one large motor, but picked up a tranny with a dual motor plate. This truck is my special project to make a short/narrow/smaller truck than my others. I like the LOOK of too smaller motors, more symetrical, ya know, 2 batt, two speed controll?, two little brushless motors...10th scale????

BTW: I have 4 sets of shorty towers left:

True that. I do like the look of a symetrical truck, doesnt look lopsided with the motor on one side. For that reason I've found somewhere that still has the GorillaMaxx X-brace motor mount for sale- I can raise the motor up to sit directly over the tranny (facing the other way ofcourse), so it will look more like MaxxBling. Good luck with your truck 0700.

What is the sweet battery setup that will fit into the stock 6cell space?

Serum 05.23.2007 12:45 PM

Flightpower trackpower packs; (available through Mikes store) you can run them in 4S, for both setups and take a mild KV motor.

Serum 05.23.2007 12:56 PM

I personally never looked into symetry, but it looks nice, no doubt. I never considered it an option though; one single motor is more efficient and lighter.

From both point of views it are compromises.

0700 05.23.2007 12:58 PM

So a pair of track packs w/balancer is THE setup?

Define 4S?

Serum 05.23.2007 01:05 PM

Hook them up in series, that way you run a higher voltage thru the systems and will make it more efficient.

A nice dual setup would be;

-trakpower packs (they are the best cells available)
-Neu 1509 motors (about 1800-2000kv)
-Quark 80B controller
-ubec.

0700 05.23.2007 01:08 PM

I didn't think an 80B would be enough???

1509s are longer than I was thinking...
