HV MAXX and standard emaxx slipper?
hiya,
i just got my hv maxx 4400 today, ran awsome, but then the slipper started slipping alot more then usual, so has it chewed it up already (15 mins), or has it just loosened up? also how long do yous think itll last on a standard slipper? |
i ran a 6.5 on the stock slipper for almost a year with no issues, but it had to be tightened down a fair amount...which negates the purpose of a slipper, lol. make sure you have a tough-as-nails drivetrain if going that route. unfortunately, a strobe slipper is kind of out of the question for hv due to the limited mod1 pinion sizes.

IF you do, remember to install slipper pegs into ALL the holes to help with durability.
Ultimately you need to move to one of the following: 1) RRP Dual Disk Slipper 2) Strobe Dual Disk Slipper 3) HSR Motorsports Dual Disk Slipper #2 & #3 are the best choices. BTW..the new release date for the HSR slippers is end of June. |
thanks alot, where and how much could i get one of those aftermarket slipper kits, also im wondering how far out the pegs should stick, should you be able to notice them sticking out by looking at them?

yep - the pegs should stick out a slight amount.
the RR slipper can be purchased at tower - or mike can maybe get a setup for you. the strobe can be purchased here. not sure about the HSR deal - procharged can get you that info. again for the strobe, though, you're limited to a 51t spur... i don't think there is a pinion low enough to match a ratio that the HV will handle. |
Not sure what ratio you need but I expect to have 48T thru 54T mod 1 spurs available. Pinions can be had up to 24T, some custom, some stocked.

oh thats not the sort of gearing im looking for, looking for 72:15 so yeah, i see that the pegs are in every second hole, and i know i cant put any in the hole above because the slipper isnt big enough so would i be able to fit them to all the holes that the slipper covers? or would there be something wrong with that?

Yes, put them in all the holes that the slipper disks cover!
More pegs, more holding power! |
thanks alot mate, one more thing, i dont know much about this gearbox, so should i get 2 or do i only need one idler gear to make it harder to break?

it depends if you have a single speed or a 2 speed. If you have the stock 2 speed trans you need 2 idlers if you have a single speed you need one idler.

i am pretty sure you will only need one with the locked trans but see what the other guys have to say. as far as the slipper i don't see many people using it and it does not appear to have anything wrong looking with it but i did rear a bad review on it here but i don't know if they just had a bad experience.

you only need 1 idler with your tranny locked in 2nd. the extra unused idler is part of the weight savings i had by just taking it out.
i had the RR slipper for a while... it was ok. nothing great. i ended up going back to 12 pegs in the stock setup b/c i somehow bent one of the aluminum discs. no idea how, but it was $35 down the tubes. the stock stuff is cheap to replace. |
thanks alot guys, one last question, when its in second gear, is the shifting rod in or out?

all the way in. the 2nd gear is closest to the spur gear (compared to 1st gear).
