Will a Mamba max motor fit in the revo mount? I was thinking if the mount will fit, I could use one for a Jato and do a brushless. I know the mount is set up for the stock motor mount, so it should work. Just need to know if the mamba max motor will fit right. Thanks

Good point, i've seen this question before; I would say yes, ofcourse.. But perhaps Mike can shine his light on this one.

Perhaps the MM motor is too short to hang over the support, but on the other hand, it's so light; why would it need a support..

Have you looked at the exploded views on the traxxas site to check the motormount? that's one of the first things i would do.

i emailed mike a while ago to see if the revo mount would fit the jato...sure would make things easy. i've not heard back from him, but i may try that method. it won't be for a while though...

i don't know enough about either truck to tell if mike's revo motor mount would work...

I currently have three jato's and was planing to convert one, should it be the single speed or the two speed? probably the single so i can redesign the top plate to work with the saddle lipo's i am going to get to use with it and an HPI RS4mt i am planning to get running. The only thing i am concerned about other than the motor fitting proper on the mount, is the tranny getting in the way. I think i will get one to see, because i got to get an esc plate for my electric revo anyways

I would recommend not using the Revo mount in this case. It would cause the motor to sit too high. It is fairly easy to make a mount out of L aluminum and still retain the stock mesh adjustment scheme. And the L bracket is PLENTY strong, especially for a short light motor.

i'm sure there's a good reason, but why would the pinion/spur mesh have to be at a parallel angle to the chassis? couldn't it be at a higher angle on the spur?

lol. It should technically work since the Revo mount screws into the actual nitro motor holes, it just would look kinda klunky and not as elegant.

Fabbing the mount really was quite easy (but still took a long time since I use just a dremel). You line it up and drill the holes for the front screws. Then, dremel out straight slots for the rear adjustment. The motor is stationary on the mount and does not change, the whole mount slide back/forth. Although, in retrospect, it might have been easier to simply use a slotted mesh adjustment for the motor itself instead.

Well, the higher you put the motor on the spur, the higher the COG. Other than that, I don't think it makes a difference as long as the mesh can be adjusted properly. With the Revo mount, having the motor sit too high will make the mesh impossible since you'll be closer to the top of the spur instead of the side of the spur. You'd have to do some creative modding to get it to work. At that point, might as well go with a L setup IMO...

what BrianG is saying is it will raise the center of gravity, I think and add weight with the mount. I may try it anyways, everytime i try to make something it never works, or if it does, it looks extremely hack

ahhh, i see your point about the slots being too high and the mesh not working.

i guess i'll probably fab something, but that'll push the jato project even further behind. i always buy what i think is the right stuff only to come home and find it's too thick or thin, wrong screw size, etc. and have to run to home depot again. i never get it right the first time, or the first 5, lol.

Fabbing the parts is 75% of the fun of this hobby guys! After all, when else can you use the "dammit tool"? :) (other thread reference)
