I know a couple of guys here are running the Lightning Stadium. I need to know how hot the motor should run when properly tuned. After 3 tanks straight, its running at about 285ish, is this too hot? Any other advice on the motor (or chassis) will be greatly appreciated.

I have never temped mine, but by the sounds of it, it runs pretty hot. I have had my truggy since last year (One of the first to get one) and the motor has always started and run well, so i don't bother messing with it. I know it runs pretty hot, so I would expect 285F to be about where I run mine. If you keep it below 300F, it will last for a while, but 250F is a better temp to be running for longetivity. I seldom use the temp gun, honestly. I tune for sound and power characteristices. The temp will vary with the weather, but a well tuned motor will always sound the same!

You mean you can actually buy these things without converting them to electric???????

Mike could you elaborate a little re:a well tuned motor should always sound the same...do you mean sound the same all the way through the throttle curve, or sound the same regardless of motor temp?

Also, are you running the stock pipe?

I mean a well tuned motor will sound the same, regardless of temperature. When properly tuned the temp may vary based on the weather, humidity, etc.

I think he means when you get on the throttle there shouldn't be any bog. Just a nice crisp throttle response and the rpms just go up from there.

i want to convert my ofna x1-crt to brushless but i don't know which motor i must use for a truggy.
Do you know some motors??? i want to use it with a bk warrior 9920

Scoobiedoobie, When i tune my nitros, I aim for a slight load up in about 20 seconds, crisp launch and a max out in about 5-7 seconds. Don't know about the Power factory engines, but my engines run from 250 with my 3.3 traxxas to 230-240 with my Racers Edge .32. tuning is all about practice and patience (believe me on the patience) I have spent two years playing with Nitro and am finally to the point to where i'm confident enough to try to help others. The first thing i'd do is go to the factory settings and work from there. Use the temps as a reference, not a guidline. When it starts to run good to you're tastes check the temp and remember it, but don't just go by it, the weather can have a serious impact on how it runs from day to day, so it could run warmer one day and cooler the next

take a peek in the BL forum, there are a couple that have done it there....

I try to notice the smoke coming out of pipe as well. If you don't see no smoke.
You know it is not getting much fuel.

Very true, Thanks Leroy. A good smoke trail is a good indication of adequate lubrication, if you lose the smoke you might be too lean. Some engines won't smoke at idle, but have good smoke on power.
